woots i looked at the GKPE website. very nice :) i like the outings idea.
Whereabouts in Auckland are you? You need to constantly keep an eye out for the "minis" with the way this thread is going. Then can happen with as little as 2 hours' notice.
Other than that, GKPE VIII is sometime November... or December when Dave/manipula hits our fair shores...
SS, your experience is reminding me to check when I last backed up my pics... oh... not bad... July was the last time... and nothing much has happened since then... except for the WRC where I didn't get much keepers...

Ooooh... I have a good Idea.
There is a small festival here that starts next week where wvwryone gets dressed up in traditional costumes, and there are lots of lights ... and beer.
It's called the Oktoberfest. We could meet there.
Bier, sausages, saurkraut(?).... yum!
I wonder if those people are still waiting for the speeding tickets that they thought they were going to receive.
:lol:Indeed... some of them are hoping that they are in the bottom 50% of speeders so they don't get a ticket!
The "Dear Motorist" letter might even endorse the 580EX for its superb lighting:lol:

Bier, sausages, saurkraut(?).... yum!
Actually you don't see many sausages or sauerkraut at the real Oktoberfest. I think it's often in the copied ones.
Bier yes.
The most popular meal is 1/2 hendl & Brezen.
= 1/2 a roast chicken + Prtzzel.
Or
Duck with red cabbage
or
Schweinebraten mit knödel. Yumm.

Appreciate your car related post the other Moppie, but I'd better not blight the forum with any further car nerd talk so soon. A lot of what you said was new info on me, details about that particular project are hard to come by from specialists here.
Photo related question: I've a shoot next weekend, and amongst many other things I wanted to try a dusk shot down an alleyway, using heavy fill flash. Have any of you done this? Are you using single flash? Diffusers? And do any of you have any experience on how you use Speedlights together so more than one's going off at once, as I've absolutely none. How do you set it up on the flashes?

Cheers, shes a potential future sister in law :)
There are a LOT of used import Nissans here, and NZ has a long history of being quite heavy Nissan buyers, and Nissan NZ has a long history of providing feed back to Nissan on how to make them faster. The SSS badge for example comes from NZ.
So, of course, there is a large knowledge base here, that I've been able to tap from time to time.
With regard to the flashes, there are LOTS of different ways to trigger more than one.
The simplest is to have a 550 or 580EX flash on camera, and 1 or more EX flashes off camera.
But you would be best reading some of the FAQ threads in the Flash forum, lots of really good info there :)

I am not sure about size, I would say either 2gb or 4gb. I am thinking of another card for the 40D. I not no idea what the data transfer rates for the 40D. If I get the fastest card out then I should be fine. :)

Can't say for the 40D without doing a bit of googling, but this rogergalbraith report has Sandisk Extreme IV's at the top of the list with a 30D: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-8478
I'd expect in reality you'll see most cards being "faster" than the 40D can write at, so the real benefit in getting a fast card is seen when reading shots off on a cardreader

I've used paper before for some light box work, it definitely works better :)
Tony has a hair light with a grid on it mounted just to the side of the BG just above head height. Worked really well.
I used his two other lights with softboxs left and right, one twice as big as the other.
Sadly the fill light (which I wasn't going to use) never worked, fortunately he's got it fixed, but it shows how handy it can be to have a back up.
