He would have to loan me his 120-300 first :) after all he did say he would loan it out once it had a knock.
The sigmaonster would be a better investment than a car for the same price.
I know what would hold its value much better.

yea well that's ture. it's funny I offen tell people about buying the ideal lens and how much it would cost. I could spend the same amount on a car and lose more money. However people can't imagine spending that much on a lens and yet they can spend that much if not more a car.
anyway I thought you wanted to check out my lens ?

You know friend of my things that I should go on one of those things. It would be interesting however going to Africa seems like a big risk. What if my gear gets stolen :(
However I see that OZ has got things like that, and I have always wondered what they would be like

Wish me luck Warren, I'm going to shoot the inline hockey tournament tommorrow. I've decided to shoot just the juniors (first 7 games) and the finals on Sunday, should be more than enough to wear me out. Will use my Efs 17-55 f/2.8 and hope for the best. Not sure if they allow flash but now have the 580ex so might try that as well.

Ahh, should have organised that you borrow my 85 1.8... Will give a bit more reach.. I know from experience, 85-200mm works well... 85mm @ F2.8 Manual, ISO 800 / 1600, RAW 1/320th, and then increase exposure in processing

Yep I'll take both lenses,
when i did a trial shoot a few weeks ago, found I also needed a bit wider than 70mm for some shots. the 17-55 f2.8 was almost as good as the 70 - 200 in this light!
Shot in iso 1600, 1/250, jpeg (still getting used to processing raw) also havn't got enough mem cards

Just out of curiousty, where did you find out 5D was superior to the 1DSMkII in quality?
I always bagged the 5D thinking it was just a full frame of the 20D with a few extra bits, and only worth $3500-4000
I do know the larger sensor at 35mm compared to 22mm is a big price difference.

No, decided trying to take the pics and print them onsite was just to much hassle, also no time for pp.
Will have to set up a web page and let them order from that. will have to look at the most economic way to show them online.
Will post some pics on sunday.

Well I had done some testing myself and this had seemed to be the case, however, I did question the validity of my results as my 'tests' were not conducted in a controlled studio. But, then I began to read on various forums that 5D had the newer model sensor and was producing higher quality, lower noise pixels when compared to the 1D. Then I dowloaded the maximum size files from this page http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/back-testing.shtml and did a comparison. The difference was clear (excuse the pun). Check it out for your self.

I found that using the eyepice cover attached to the strap produced vibration - the strap swings in the breeze, jerking the camera. Detached, I could never find it. The Angle viewer seems to reduce the problem, but I use a soft black cloth draped over the top of the camera for long exposures.

Yes, I do. I wouldn't be without it. Great for getting to see the viewfinder when the camera is out-of-reach for normal viewing, such as hanging upsidedown a cm from the ground, or overhead literally, or just getting a good straight view. Its 2.5x magnification is essential for macro focussing. Its 360degree rotation allows candid shots to the side or almost behind.
It's almost like having a fully-rotatable live-view lcd monitor.
Yes, the price is ridiculous.

That looks good....I will have to spend some time trying to work out how to do that in elements......or maybe it is time to upgrade (and another learning curve!). The only thing is, when you make the border that big, it makes the image pretty small when you have to stay inside 800 pixels.

Thanks, you almost sold it to me

I got mine along with a grid focusing screen for B&H $400 NZ for both.
Order it on friday night and arrive monday afternoon.
I got the angle C for several reasons, one of which was for getting into macro and manual focus. The other advatage is when I was doing waterfalls I would be in the water but I couldnt see the view finder at least with the angle finder I could look down and see.

Thinking of heading down to the local soccer ground and taking some shots of people playing, any rules/etiquette associated with taking pics of strangers with a big white lense? Should I ask the club first or something? I'm itching to actually use this thing I've spent so much money on :-p

However, if I did get a contract for some place, I may not need all this gear.
At the Rugby today, a few people with 400 2.8s I think they were, and all had 1DMkII.
Typical, they're all rude, and look at me funny. They just don't like competition. Yet I'm not even there for that, just taking more range of shots for my portfolio.

Yeah, you're right, closer would be better, I was trying to capture too much of the action, I remember thinking that while I was taking the photos... I guess it's cause I used to play until I stuffed my back, and I'm used to looking where the ball is going instead of getting the actual drama of the expressions etc.
It would be nice to have a bit more reach, but then I guess that's always the case, regardless of the tele you've got. Time to start saving for the 1.4x then!

Well if they are not intrested now whats he got to loose. Sometimes you need to get in someones face to get noticed. Hell make an appointment to see them. Find away. Anyway I dont deal with middle men I go straight to the top.

Hell I dont hold a dam computer qualification, I dont even have School Cert, but what I have got is the biggest set of balls you will ever see, when I want something nothing will stop me, fuel that by telling me I cant and I will show you what I can do. I suggested waiting because while Wazza is good I think with more experience and a larger portfolio he'll have a better chance of getting a job in a newspaper. I'd also think starting for a smaller newspaper, or working freelance, would be a good plan. But I don't know much about the newspaper photography business.
I tend to go to the top as well. I once had a problem with Vodafone, I found out the CEOs email address and emailed. He set up a panel to fix the problem I pointed out. Going to the top can work!
