That's a cool shot. nothing like showing off the size of our own solar system. It's hard to believe that jupiter is so large that it would take thousands of moons to take up that space.

That looks a lot better through a telescope, and Jupiter showing also.

That's like 2500mm focal length.

The Celestron telescope is around US$4000.
For what it does, and top focal elements, motors, GPS, this and that.. does a crap load more than a similar price Canon 300mm F2.8

Wow thats impressive!

No Tony, it's my grandads 2500mm 10" Meade LX200 telescope.. Soon to be replaced with a hopefully sharper 8" Celestron, which will be easier to move around also.

http://wazza.nfscity.com/photography.htm

click the right tile... there's a couple of planets.. 100% crop.
Which are probably 50-100 pixels across!
So it's really poor. May look at using a 2x or 1.4x converter also next time on the T mount.

Not quite as sharp but here was my attempt with bigma and 2xTC on the 10D. That gave a total of 1600mm. F8 and 1/8. Someone did ask if it was taken with a telescope. Sold a few A3 as well !

Anyone know if there are short-courses in IT (hardware/hardware support) that I can enroll in? Any places you would recommend?

13 months on... and I need to start thinking about retooling myself because being on the dole is not an option for me...

Seems like SMEs (small to medium enterprises - which account for 85% of companies out there) are not keen to have a migrant, and an Asian at that being "the face" of the company... man, why did I have to be in sales & marketing???

Sorry for the rant... just so frustrated that I have so much to offer and yet no one will give me a break...

I know how you feel. I've been here for five months, so far, and I've applied for 38 different teaching position (and counting). Every time my applications were rejected (for unknown reasons), in spite of my PhD, my Italian experiences and the good references I've collected in the schools where I'm doing relief teaching. :(
I only have one year (actually 11 months) to secure a position here. Six months remaining. If I fail I'll have to come back to Italy, and that would really really really annoy me.

A little bit bigger than a 300/2.8 though! Not what I would want to walk around with all day.

Actually my Skywatcher is quite light, it is the tripod and mount that have the real weight. How heavy can a metal tube with a mirror at the end get?

He used the cherry picker to take "aerial" shots of the house, hence his smaller digital camera.

Actually, the van alone is worth what he is asking for. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

And now, for something completely different, as it seems we are all stuck to the net! I shot this one last week at the Zoo, but I've forgot the name (can you please give me a 1DIIn so that I can record short vocal notes? ;)).
It was on the Australian section: are you able to name it?

Where is that picture of Tony with the second hand 400 f2.8 on his 5D at Auckland Camera? For a minute I thought he was going to buy it, he had that look in his eye! But he fought off the temptation. (Well done Tony!)

That would be a fantastic lens for certain applications, and a bargin price compared to a new one! (Actually Wazza, it might be good for your sports, and at $4000, pretty cheap compared to over $12K for a new one. No IS on this one though.)

That lens is very high up my want list. Can you tell us how sharp it is at F1.4 and then maybd F2 and F2.8, and let us know if it can focus ok on something in the distance like a landscape?

I was tempted to order one of these and a 17-55 F2.8 IS from Auckland Camera today.

550 on the camera, pointing straight up off my perfectly painted white ceiling (there was a reason its white) with the 420 aprox 45 deg off to the right side of camera angled 45deg up, on my tripod, which is on the couch.
So the 550 is just above eye level, and the 420 is at eye level.

There getting better as I take more, I bumped the FEC up 1 stop, and they look a lot better, puts a lot more light in my hair, and shows more detail in my eyes, as well as providing a better white balance.

All 160th at F4.5 on the 28-105 at 105mm, shooting in Manual, with the 550 in ETTL

It was a great experence trying it out. You have no idea about a lens untill it on your body and your taking photos with it. Revies only give you an idea, so do specs. There is nothing like having a good play yourself then going home and looking at the photos.

I was pretty tempted, but I really just wanted to see how low they would go with it.
I know now I can walk in and buy a camera, lens, and tripod all in one hit, and really screw them down on price, because if they don't give it to me at a good price I can walk out and go somewhere else, and they know that.
They also know that if they give me a good deal, there are at least 7 other Canon shooters lined behind me :D

They certianly got a kick out of seeing that many of us at once all work in sporting DSLRs :D

They got even more of a kick out of us all walking out with more than we came in.....although nobody got any big ticket items, and Duncan let the side down by not buying anything. I think we should make AC a regular stop on GKPE outings......and after a few visits negotiate a group discount scheme.

Should be OK if you can inspect before you buy and pick it up when you pay him. That lens is extremely well regarded, from what I have read. Even with a 2xTC it is supposed to be very sharp.
