Goto Autel in Botany downs, good range of appliances there, and lots of room to negoiate on the price to.

It take it the machine is so old its not worth fixing?

About 5yrs 7.5kg but it gets used every day, I dont know why they dont hang towels to dry rather than just throw them in the wash
Umm there goes my lens

Uh oh... mine is 6 years old... and does get abused, i.e., over-loaded when I'm rushing the laundry... I'd better take it easy then.

Good luck finding a replacement. B&B, H&S are running some promos at the moment. Check with them.

The Lovely PRF, great customer actualy.

The biggest problem with the NZ market is Fisher and Paykel.
They will only supply stores on exclusive arrangement.
Its very illegal, but they seem to get away with it.
Unforuntatly while thier stuff is very very good, its also incrediably over priced.
The Warehouse, Autel and Harvey Norman are the only large scale, mainstream retailers not stocking thier product, so they are the only ones that provide an variety to the market, although when hunting for a dishwasher Autel was the only one of the 3 with a decent selection, at a good price.

And yes there are some expensive toys here, around Christmas time when Tim was up here from Wellington we had a BBQ at Scotts, you should have seen the gear on the table there :D In fact we mad a coffee table with legs made from L Telephoto Lenses :D :D :D

I justified the move from film to digital (I know some of you guys didn't know photography existed before Digital  ) by the savings from not buying and developing film. I though (foolishly) that moving to a DSLR from a film SLR wouldn't cost me anymore than a SLR Body, but what I didn't realise was suddenly I discovered how inadequate all my lenses were :( (i.e. more spending required)

Sounds like a plan.....and it wouldn't matter if the weather was crap like saturday. We would need a big studio to fit all the photographers.....anybody got a decent garage we could use?

If we started mid afternoon, we could shoot up untill dinner time. Eat and then shoot some more.

nice design for a webby, havent seen one like it so its fresh.

Yeah, a portrait set up is a good idea, will help all your posing techinques loads. it also follows through to the rest of your photography too because at the end of the day its all about body movements and composition. I'll be in if I'm free. you'll need a dble garage though and I'm sorry to say that I don't have one.

Can you post some pics of the card you recieved? Their images on trademe are consistant with the genuine ones...

Their images on trademe are all exactly the same, and probably downloaded from a sandisk product page.

Sure. The reason I think they're fake are;

No serial number. No hologram. Incorrect packaging. Incorrect manual.

Should say "Lifetime Limited Warranty" around the tick:
http://www.someconditionsapply.com/picsforothersites/img_0012.gif

Should be an actual Sandisk manual - check this against the one on
http://martybugs.net/articles/fakesandisk.cgi
http://www.someconditionsapply.com/picsforothersites/img_0001.gif

No serial number on the bottom of the card (or anywhere else)

Oh, and excuse the pics, they're from Liz's work camera.

Umm what to chose Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 or Canon 300mm F2.8 L non IS
Prime vs Zoom.

Myself, I'd choose the 120-300 for the flexibility.

It's been said before... The Sigma 120-300 at 300mm, is in fact sharper than Sigma's own.. 300mm F2.8 prime, which is a tad more expensive!

The 300mm 2.8 IS is THE sharpest of all lens, and works excellent with a 2x converter too. The fastest focusing. However not sure about non IS

They seem to think the non IS was sharper than the IS model. The guys got in contact so I will go have a test and check the weight.

The IS version is $8000 new. My thinking is keep the bigma and have 1 tele prime for birds/sports.

The answer will be clear after a play. Im not into IS.

I would have been thought that the 120-300 F2.8 is the better deal. You are also getting a lens that's F2.8 at 120mm and 200mm. And since you are not in to IS then it's not a selling point.

As for sharpness, primes are always going to be better than any zoom lens, however I am off the though of flexablty over anything else that a prime may offer.

Weight will be a major factor. I want a bird lens. 200mm is way to short. The bigma does a great job of landscape and at F11 its fine but not for birds.

I think a prime will also teach me more than a zoom. What ever it is has to be F2.8

Rang the guy and he works for the herald :)

If I go for the Sigma 120-300F2.8 then Im going to end up with 2 lens that will be redundant Canon 70-200 F4 and Sigma 50-500. So if I sold them both and got $2k then I could buy???

Hmm. Bennylin emailed me and offered a refund. I told him to let me know when he's paid the money back into my account. Now I've just received an email from trademe, saying that the seller of that CF card wants to get his success fee back from them, because the trade has not been completed!

"You need to contact the seller immediately to complete the purchase or to let them know you won't be completing the trade.

Note: Bidding on an auction is a commitment to buy. We monitor the number of refunds against members, excessive claims against you may result in suspension of your Trade Me account."

Send TradeMe a note detailing why you are not pushing through with the sale, i.e., fake cards. (That should also start an investigation) That should sort things out. Also, if BennyLin leaves negative feedback suggest you write something long and nasty on the community board, as well as answer his feedback stating the reason why you backed out. That will cause more pain for the guy.

Don't worry about the "if you ask for too many refunds" thing, i've done it a few times and no problems.

You guys are getting a bit nuts over your toys. If you need a big heavy fast expensive lens because it's going to make you money that's one thing, if you want an $8K lens to take photos of birds as a hobby, and you can't afford to drop $8K without giving it any thought, you're mad.

I dont drop big heavy lens, you must be thinking of the westy . Tim its only money, you cant take it with you when you die so enjoy it while you are alive. Dont stock it all up for old age as you may end up a vegatable and someone else will get it.

Dont know anout the rest of you but I have 1 life and I am going to live it hard and fast, im going to go out the same way I came in SCREAMING. I will die with no regretes and lived a life without fear. I have been thinking about getting a fast prime. Canon 50 1.4 or Sigma 30 1.4 were the 2 I have been considering. But Tim's comment earlier got me thinking. I don't make any money from photography, and don't aspire to. I'm also not sure how much use it would get. So should I save $300-400 and get the 50 1.8 instead. How good, or bad is it?

Buy cheap buy twice. What will you use a 50mm F1.4 for. They go for about 500+ on trade me. I got mine for portraits and other bits that use 58mm filters ie IR, Close up, ND etc

On a 1.6 its =to a 80mm, the 1.8 is fine $180 at AC or about the 100-120 on TM

in regards to the UK, I've been there 3 or 4 times, would have to check the passport, last time was for 5 mths up until last april. Mostly it was in and out, passing through for a mth or so on the way to another ship.

Everyone knows my opinion of the 50mm F1.8... great for driving practice at the golf range, that's about it.

My comment about $$$ wasn't "don't buy expensive lenses", I have more than my fair share of toys. What I was saying was that some people seem to be putting toys ahead of other more important things. I'm really not talking about anyone in particular, I skim read this thread because it's so active, so I might've gotten all the posts mixed up. Get the toys if you can afford them, sure!

Someone should tell that cefiro driver that having a GLASS window half down, while racing, is a really good way to a head and face full of glass.
It should be all the way up, or all the way down. In which case in a crach it will shatter into lots of little bits.
With it half way down that top edge will go though the visor of his helmet, and into his face, where it will shatter into lots of little bits.

It will be either a 550EX or 580EX, I see AC is the cheapest for a new 580EX (better than Trademe), might have rushed out and grabbed one if I hadn't just drowned my cell phone
