ah yeah we are aware of that. We had it all setup running flash, which everyone seems to have, but just in the last couple of days we started having issues with that so we switched to windows media player till we can find a fix. Sorry mate. You can still listen if you like. Open your favourite media player and hit the open url button, type in :

Oh get over yourself tony. I have a good tripod, I know how to shoot correctly.
You, on the other hand tony, have no idea of the conditions I shoot in. You dont know my situation, my needs, or the needs of the people who pay me.
You might have noticed I dont tell you what to do, so perhaps you might like to return the favour.

Thems fighting words. Only a person who didnt know me would say what you said in a public forum and in the way its was said.
I will catch up with you in the near future.

Matt -- I think Tony meant that for me, hence him quoting what I posted. We've been discussing this lens off forum for some time. I think that he wanted to reiterate what he told me about shooting with the mono/tripod.
Besides, the LOL icon at the end should've meant that this was a light-hearted, and not meant to offend comment.

Now a question for IT and telecommunication buffs.
My dad is installing these 1Gig cables throughout the house, to transmit, IR, TV, Network/ADSL, Phone Lines, through a big box...
The question is, what would be the better option.
A ADSL modem, plugged into the network, or a router.

That is easy. Router wins every time, have a look at the Cisco 877.

Don't think we need all those bells and whistles..
It's going into a Signet box, so can't there be something internal like, without the need for the fancy box, for under $200-300?

There are pleanty of cheaper options, it was just the fact that everything else seemed to be top notch so that is the top notch router that you can have, check out the Dynalink Z660HW as a cheaper alternative, it has a built in switch and wireless.

Cisco are doing a special at the moment on 857 ADSL routers - you should be able to get one for $416 incl GST (or $500 incl GST for a 857W 802.11g wireless one ) if someone can get you stuff from Techpac without being a Gold or Silver Cisco partner (which rules me out - sorry!)

Not bad... it could've been worse;) You can always work your way up... I think it is more difficult staying in 1st -- heaps more painful falling off the pedestal rather than ascending to it.
Now, the only problem with you being on the team is that we don't get to see any action shots!:p

Yep, $2185 @ AC, and possibly much lower with Graham -- both with Canon NZ warranties.
$1850 should be tops. New and warranty for $350 is probably a better buy.

Hows my Flash ?
It's fine, I think I only fired 3 times all weekend.
10 things I learn't over the weekend:
1) I'm still not really interested in photographing people.
2) A 50mm prime on a 1.6 crop camera is too long for what i would use a fast prime for most of the time. The Sigma 30mm would be nice, but I don't think I would use it enough to justify the price.
3) I should have got up earlier on Saturday for the best light.
4) Always take you whole kit bag with you even when just going for a casual walk.
5) I need a ball head for my monopod
6) I need a bigger camera bag
7) I really want to replace the kit lens with something better
8) My wife worries about my ego. (We were in Harvey Norman and she noticed that my 350D is considerably smaller than the 30D and 5D they had on display. I probably could have swung a 30D out of it, but I would rather buy glass at this point.)
9) Tui's are shy, and hard to photograph
10) I probably don't need a new flash at this point (but the studio day may convince me otherwise.....)

Tony - re: 70-200 -- I hope that you put on an auto bid higher than $1750... I would hate to see you lose this lens by $0.50 or $50... that is unless you will be keeping an eye out till the last few closing seconds. I'd say $1850 will still be a good price... any higher won't be worth it.
Btw, he/she mentioned that he would look at the warranty receipt at work, and whether he has an extended one. Depending on how long his extended warranty is - I would bid up to $1950 if it is all good.
Do make sure that the warranty is transferrable. There are some that are good only for the original purchaser.

The only thing stopping me is my 17-40mm become a 22-52mm with 1.3 crop but I gain on the tele end.
Will need to check my landscapes at home to see what mm I use a lot of.
I get the added advantage of FPS and its newer than the 1Ds.

I don't see the problem? Of course you should take care, and buying direct imports is a risk, but you trade that off against two things:
Newer gear (direct importers get the latest gear a lot sooner than retail stores)
Price (often quite a bit cheaper)
We made an informed decision with our 70-200, based on the fact that neither auckland camera, nor camera warehouse could get the new "macro", nor could they come anywhere near matching the price ($400-800 difference). If it fails so be it, that's what insurance is for ;) .

I just want something simple, I place the images in a directory and the site does the rest
Jalbum or Arles web page creator. I think Jalbum lets you add a folder and press build again to update your site. I'm trying to build my own slideshow software where you download your pictures into a folder and the slideshow updates on the fly. That's using VB6. As far asp goes, I suppose if it can be done in VB then asp shouldn't be too difficult.

All up...no bloody idea. Was told to send the lens back for repair. (It had been obviously dropped, by who...don't know). Spent about a week emailing getting confirmation that the repair was free or new lens. 100% sure, sent lens back ($65 for the bigma to HK) Then about 6 weeks I reckon, them emailing saying no repair and I have to pay for return and me emailing them the emails they sent saying it was for free. When I mentioned scams, police and negative feedback suddenly they agreed to return the lens.
If you have patience with Jalbum you can create your own skins. I started but I get so annoyed I have to put it down for a few years.

2. Canon EFS 17-55MM would be $1600.00 inc GST
3. sigma 17-70 F2.8 $495.00+gst = $557.00 IF AVAILABLE SIGMA HAVE JUST GONE UP 10% ON ALL LENSES AND ARE VERY LOW ON STOCK.I HAVE A SECOND HAND SIGMA 18-125
WHICH IS $395.00 IT IS a 18-125MM F 3.5/5.6 DC

Tony -- Well done!!! You have heaps of potential and opportunities before you.
My comments: as with your initial portraits, I find (5748;5820;5817;LD; LD1; LD2) that there is too much head space (if that is what it is called) -- a slightly tigher crop could improve and strengthen your portraits.
As for lighting, I cannot comment much as I have no experience in studio lighting. But, FWIW, I did find a couple that could be improved by increasing lighting slightly... though it could be my monitor.
Dave & Liz -- thanks for giving Tony THE break. I am sure that this will give him more confidence to get out there and follow his dream.

yep, probably the auction will go beserk saturday morning but will see how it pans out. The guy's got a couple of 2900's as well, but I'd rather have something I can run full layer 3 switching software on so I can study for my Cisco exams...
Hmmm can live without layer3 for now, might check out the 2900's. My main VM box supports VLAN tagging and trunking so I can use soft routers on the VM to connect between the different VLANs. (OK got that everyone?).
I have a couple of Auctions closing soon, just about to do the beserk thing, they have many watchers and $1 reserves :D

REMEMBER Pay your tax on time to avoid pentalitys.
And they charge interest on late payments, they really should pay it too really on late refunds. Remember its our job to be fair.

always amuses me when folks have really good camera gear on trademe etc. and have really cr@p shots of the gear. Makes you wonder if they're selling on behalf, or worse...
What do you use to take a pic of the camera you're selling?
Unless you've got a good backup camera...
