Type in photographer into seek. Linky thing doesn't seem to work.

Brightness shifts the middle of the histogram to the right, but leaves the endpoints the same.

Everyday something new, every single day. Where do you guys pick up these things? I've trawled through a tomb on PS and didn't come away with anything this simple. Any more "PS jems in one sentence"

Like Fran said, "Advocate of the Devil", or "Devils Advocate" :)

Everyday something new, every single day. Where do you guys pick up these things? I've trawled through a tomb on PS and didn't come away with anything this simple. Any more "PS jems in one sentence"

I think I picked that up in this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321334094/qid=1123058474/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-3047575-5896047?n=507846&s=books&v=glance), I think. I have maybe 20 books on photography, photoshop, wedding photography, and a few DVDs on wedding photography. I also recently read the Bruce Fraser "real world color management" book, that's the most arcane thing i've read in a while, but interesting and valuable.

Other things about the histogram. Shadows adjusts the left hand side of the histogram, exposure adjusts the right hand side. Contrast... well not sure on that one. Control Alt ~ selects the highlights, so you can make an image brighter without blowing the highlights.

I probably know other things... just ask!

Oh well don't need to watch that on Prime now do I. Suppose I better get on with some work.

Tim, the book I bought was Real World Photoshop CS so probably didn't touch on RAW too much. That was before I started realising the hidden treasures that are RAW files. I shall have to look into one about using these files in PS. As far as "PS jems in one sentence", if I need to know something I'll ask. Cheers.

Contrast does both sides equally - so if you centre it with Brightness, you can adjust the high and low out to the 'edges' with contrast.

Hey guys.

I have a bit of spare time at work these days, and I'd like to go in and have a go at photographing our beautiful theatre, the Civic.

I'm sure some of you have been in there and know what its like. Its quite dark so long exposures on a tripod are the order of the day, but I have the advantage of being able to climb into some interesting places to take pics from.

I'd like to shoot with a 17-40 or 16-35 to do it better justice than my kit lense, so if anyone has either of those plus a nifty fifty they'd like to loan me for a couple days, that'd be awesome. I might just be able to sneak you in for a little behind-the-scenes look if your interested.

And want to earn some $$$.

Thanks :)

And I agree - Tony, you make a more than adequate model, theres a few other good ones here.

John - re: the head space - I was going to crop it, but it seemed more natural to give him a bit above to "sit up" into... But that's why I'm an amateur! I'll try the tighter crop and see if it's a better look.

Dave, Makes sense. I also was asking because I wanted some clarification. Tony tends to leave some head-space too... and I've seen a few people on the forum crop tightly so I am confused as to what is the right approach. I need to get to the library and find a book!!!;)

Put the eyes at 2/3 of the way up the image. you all know the 3rds rule?. head space depends on the image taken what it is for etc, but that image of Tony looks about right for a basic portrait, if he lfted his head and was looking at the camera his eyes would be at approximately 2/3 of the way up the image.

So i think it's good.

I like fast focusing lenses :D
My modified quick release mono-pod worked well and the lens even worked well with the 2xTC and manual focus.

That tripod mounting ring makes mono-pod use almost pleasurable :D

Comparing the Sigma 70-300 APO and Canon 70-200 f4 I would say that for what I do the IQ difference 70-200mm is negligible but the Sigma needs more time to get there.
Unfortunately 100kph at 6m away doesn't allow for more time.

I like it.

I need a 1.4xTC now as 100-280mm would open up more shooting angles at this kart track but a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 with 2xTC would be even better.

Thanks Tony :D

By selling my bigma may help me get off my A$$ and spend some serious money on tele photo
The only contender is the Sigma 120-300 and 1.4 TC

So do we look at Canon 70-200 F2.8 and a Canon 300mm F4 or 400mm F5.6 prime and Canon 1.4 TC
Sigma prices well up Sigma 120-300 $3473.50 + GST. The Sigma 120-300 is VERY heavy so for moving birds may be a bit of a mission
where a 300 / 400 prime maybe better option.

I have the Lowepro Mini Trekker AW. In it is the camera with 28-135 lens and hood. The 15-30, Bigma and the 2xTC plus various leads. Pocket at the front for paper type stuff. There are enough straps to start an S&M parlour. When worn correctly it's excellent. When slung over one shoulder it's bloody heavy. When the missus carries it, I wouldn't even realise I had it with me.;) Cost was very reasonable as well.
