just heard that Peter Brock has been killed in a racing accident.

it's a sad day for motorsports :( from all reports he was also a good guy that was happy doing what he loved. who always had time for others and his fans.

Warren -- have you tried deleting the burner? Do you have the drivers that came with it? Also, did you check for a virus? Try www.bitdefender.co.nz -- they have a robust on-line virus scanner.

one thing you could look at doing and that's a firmware update on the drive. http://forum.rpc1.org/ is a good place to start.

However normaly I would just say the drive is stuffed and buy another one.

Well looks like I am a wimp after all. Going through all my bigma photos and at the end of the day I cant sell it. So where is the 1 Tonne glue and 30D.

I have to live with the limits of the bigma. Great in bright sunny days. No good in low light or for fine detail and fast moving birds (Canon 400mm F5.6 for that)

Everyone wanted to do part payments for the 30D, but I hate people owing me money.

I will just have to save for my Tele Primes.

Well I have just been over 1000+ bigma photos to try and work out why some are sharp and the rest crap and the answer is SHUTTER SPEED and TRIPOD.

My shutter speed way to slow and hand held at the same time = crap photos.
There are some very sharp photos other wise and with a bit of USM they will be ok,sure the Bigma is not an "L" lens but for the $1500 I paid for it a year ago it more operator error than len error.

I remember in January 2006 I had what I called my 3 gold rings. Sigma 10-20, 24-70 and 50-500mm with my 20D. Why the hell did I want a 5D.

Will I sell my 5D...yeah right only to trade up to a 1Ds 16mp. The 5D has way to may advatages for me over a 30D. Now its time to work the 30D and find out where it kicks the 5D, it does in FPS but not in ISO and noise.

So the conclusion I have come to is I have to much money and not enough cents. Will that stop me......NO

I want the best, I want the sharpest and I want "L" glass and 1D cameras. Ive only just started, but mark my words what you have seen with my photos is nothing they will fail in comparison to what I will be producing.

Auckland has enough topics for me to cover, I just need to get out more, focus and excel.

Oh well that enough of my rant.

PS I have decided that I will hire out my studio lights for those that are intrested. More of a donation (wear and tear) than anything. No use having this stuff and it collecting dust when others in the group can use it.

1 Rule only you break or damage it you replace it.

Hey Weka, probably a good idea if you can post a list of all the lighting equipment you have then please and a price list for your equipment leasing.

also would you hire out your 5d? I needed one a while back but could'nt rent one anywhere :-(. might get one soon anyways but in the mean time if something comes up...

the best way to learn the rules and light is to shoot for a year in B/W only, and shoot every image to fit all the rules perfectly. it makes you think mechanically about it, then after a year of this it is fully locked in your brain so you can break them, when you break them you'll always subconsiously be using all the rules, so when you break one you'll use another to bring the image back to a working composition, to try and do this without learning them first can't be done i don't think, because you'll never fullly know if it is wrong or right. it will just be luck

Hirage will what people are willing to offer with in reason. I know there is not a lot of money to spare in many homes so I dont want people to miss out.

Whats the 5D worth to you, for how long and do you need glass? PM me with what you have in mind.

Most of us have done swap for swap, but I would also probably have to do have some cashfor a 5D/1 series body, and maybe even my big lens if it was to be used for paid shooting. :p

5D + 120-300 + Westpac Rescue Helicopter, I wonder how that would come out.

Its the big stuff. 5D and light Studio lights.
We have all done the borrow bits and the odd flash.

I would hire your 120-300 if I had something I really wanted to get sharp if I had nothing else in my collection that could do the job. No point in buying 1better off saying here is $100 for a days use of your lens.

For example someone wanted do do some family bits over a weekend and wanted it dome right with lights and bits. Where would they go how much would they have to pay. Im offering my Studio lights for hireage for a small fee.

The setup has cost me over $1500 say a $100 hirage for a weekend I dont think it is on the nose after all the only thing I dont have for it is a light meter @ $600 +. 3 Lights, 2 Softboxes, boom arm, stands, reflectors, remote trigger, snoot etc.

Something with Douglas in it... ANd then National Treasure.. And F1 at midnight, qualifying.. The last 10 laps, can be more interesting than an actual race. And I'll watch the Boks vs Wallabies also.. Hopefully it's a big scorer.

 Fords, always getting in the way.... anyone add insult by pointing out the road code to the Mondeo driver?

It's a 50Kph one way system.
The Holden was travelling a bit faster than that to flip the Ford.
There are 2 bushes in the fence that block your view when you're turning right.
Oh and the Holden driver never went near his brakes.
By all accounts he was "motoring".
He travelled 50-60m past the impact site, tearing a strip out of the left footpath before veering right and smashing the reinforced concrete barrier and being stopped finally by the fence before the 5-6m drop into the 5cm deep river .

I can tell you one thing though, Ant, the guy who runs it is one of the most colourful, positive characters you'll ever meet, a little like Croc i suppose, he's a londoner originally, i meet him moons ago in Sydney. It would probably be one of the best in the world simply because Ant's involved. when he does something he doesn't just do something, he gets fully focussed and totally into it. Hey Moppie, hold of on the 30D for a couple more weeks. Rumours are circulating that the 40D will be announced before the end of the month. !0MP, anti dust stuff like the 400D etc.

It remains to be proven that the high ISO noise has not got worse with canon's 10MP 1.6 crop sensors. Some pictures I have seen from the 400D look pretty good, others not.

Moppie
9th of September 2006 (Sat), 21:55
Unless the 40D gets live preview and a flip out LCD, then I hope it comes out just so it will lower the price of the 30D :)

I would hope that everyone here takes a moment to read and try and make this as big or if not bigger than the Photo Below Me (yea ok I am dreaming) post.

I would also like this to been open to new ideas. If you have any ideas as to what would make a great topic then I would recommend you saying so. That also goes for the posts and or comments. I would like more MP, but overall IQ is more important. If they have managed more MP without more noise, I'mm all for it.

Anything that reduces the need to swab my sensor, I am all for! Initial reports that I have seen of the 400D are that the shaking thing works well.

Not that I will be buying one anytime soon. I still plan to keep the 350D for at least another year.
