The really scary thing is, given those prices ($500 for wedding! ) they are probobly getting some bussiness out of it.
Unforuntaly I wonder if the clients realise just how much they get what they pay for?

I'm going to take a couple of those to weddings, along with my phone/camera, just for the laugh... i'll open my big bag, show I have a couple of decent cameras, then pull out a disposable camera and start shooting away. I might pull it out during the day if people look like they need a laugh.

I'm not pulling any punches on that work. The only way people would accept that is if they don't know any better.

I just checked the EXIF to see what camera he was using half expecting to see a five year old Sony P&S but he is actually using a Fuji S2 Pro

I saw one many years ago when we were looking for shooting stars (certain times in the year are more likely than others), heard it too, it broke up into several smallers pieces and burnt up, so nothing hit the ground (phew).

What I find funny as well (not just the website) is that we've probably given him another 50 or more hits. He probably thinks we're genuinely interested in his site. He's listed on photo.co.nz under photographers saying he'll shoot...Digital work only "of anything". I shouldn't take the pi55 as he's probably made more money from photography than I have.

This is the difference that i want to pursue. its the pursuit of excellence ... not the pursuit of the quick dollar....

And excellence takes an attitude that will not stop short of the best. I give photography 110% but I let myself down by quick PP. The final photo is what people see and if there are errors they will see those and reflect back onto me.

Excellence takes a lot of hard work, and thats why such a small number make it as pro photographers. You can learn to photograph but the attitude is built in to the photographer. 1/2 assed dosnt make the from page.

I went to havey normans and held the 5D, nice camera and knowing that it was full frame it looked sweat on the 17-40. However I think long and hard before I even think about buying it.

the only thing letting me down on the 5D is it's not good for cars on a track.

Absolutely nothing of interest in this particular post but a momentous occasion of reaching 200 posts. I should do a 'shrimper' and post on TPBM for a couple of hours and boost my post count.

I feel like celebrating...now where's the beer... what do you mean ;) i have only 89 post on that thread...

that lens is a 5200mm which has a range up to 32 miles. so on a 30D at 1.6x that would make it 8320 mm giving it a range of 51.2 miles which is just shy of 90 kms.

That means i could shoot Timaru from here..

damn you goes can talk ....normaly there is only a couple of pages I wasn't at my desk today so when I got home I started reading there was about 10 pages to read

and here is some of my replies to what was said today

- I use www.2day.com for getting my domains they seem to be one of the cheapest for registering a domain less than $30 a year
- I host all of my own websites on my dsl connection... never seem to have a problem
- That goes webpage was I think the worst I have ever seen and from what I can see of his photos I don't think I am doing to bad and I think everyone on here is far better

But the NI has a far higher population density meaning that if it is hit there is more chance of landing on someone!! But then think of the money to be made selling a piece of meteorite. $1 reserve on TM should see you right.

I use The Kiwi Web Hosting Company, it's not a bad price and also it's a web server in NZ. so if the rest of the world gets disconnected I can still see my page. it's also a NZ compnay with an address that I can go to if I need to. They have been good for me. Never had a problem getting to my web site or uploading files.

When I was working in EDS, some of the guys there had a small web company, however despite them saying that they where in US, they later found out in fact they where in india.

I find when I travel I mostly use my Tokina 12-24 F4. 28mm on a 1.6X crop body is a bit long for what I shoot - mainly landscapes and cityscapes. The Sigma is meant to be bigger and heavier than the similar Tamron lens.

The wide end would be the one worry I have with my setup as is.

But at least now I don't have the big jump from 30mm to 70mm, and if I have to, I can use the kit lens at 18mm.

Is the 28mm on a 1.6x crop excessively long for your shots, or just a bit?

Not the worlds greatest lens, but stopped down a bit, it should be good for travel I think.

Do not aim for the best just yet. Learn all you can and work out what you really want to focus on then buy the right body and the right lens.

I started out with a Sony F828 then a 20D with Kit lens upgrade to Sigma 24-70.

In that range now I dont need. 17-40mm 50mm covers it. However having said that I am looking at 20mm 24mm 28mm 35mm primes
Out of that range the Canon 28mm is looing good the 20mm I would have to test due to the amount of mixed messages the 24 and 35 are old models
so would have to go for the "L" versions.

However at this point in time its only research not spending thats been saved for the 300mm and 400mm primes

Im using EXIF pro to work out what focal lengths I used the most and when.
