Does a 550EX fit on an A80?
Define fit?
I could whip out my credit card and go and buy a 5D with some nice glass, then use up all my savings and get some more nice glass.
But if Im still alive in 3 days I will regret it, and probobly with in a month I would have sold it pay for the bond on a flat, which I would be living in on my own.
Sure I could die on the way home, or I could live for another 60 years.
You have to plan for both, because none of us really know what will really happen.

Now thats been OTT :p . 20D and a couple of lens (sigma 10-20 24-70 70-200)
theres $4k at the most.
I dont plan on making 60. I want to go young fast and hard. Perfect death for me falling off a waterfall broken neck. Die doing what you love. Not rotting in some rest home wishing you were dead, dribbling and having someone change you.
If I found out I had a tumor/cancer it would be a nice meal with my freinds and family. And off for a drive. Listing to my favorite music, watching a sunset miles away from anyone as I fell asleep after ODing on sleeping tablets.
Your right Moppie you got to have a plan for both

What you have the same thoughts on life and death as well scott?
I want a full life not a half lived one where I worried about tommorow and what if. I look back on my life to date with no regreats. Yes If I could do it all over I would do it different. As most of us might. But I dont look back I look foward. So based on my calculations I have 21 yrs left. So its going to be full on. If I hit 60 and Im still ok I will review the desision.
While we are on stats how about one that show who gets out the most as takes photos compared to those who talk about taking photos :)

I go out every night unless I have the kids. But I go out with a purpose. Last night was panorams. I then study my photos and go out the next night to try and correct the mistakes I made the night before.
Scott has been one of my greatest critics. Every time now "Is the horizon straight" and slowely "Rule of thirds"
Passion not skill makes a great photograher. Thats why there are some subjects I will not shoot no passion, not no skill.
I dont take as many photos as some 110max or untill the 2gig card is full. I then post the best ones for you guys to pull to bits, I learn I go back redo.

Crap - my landlord has given me notice, she's moving into the apartment herself. Finding an apartment is a real pain. At least I have 6 weeks. Actually, by law, she has to send a physical letter to make it offical, not just an email. So if I don't find anywhere I can throw that at her.

downunder

The lighting varies alot at Papatoetoe, as there is some natural light through skylights so if the sun is out and there under a skylight then your lucks in otherwise its pretty bad

ISO 800, 1/500th?
What aperture?
Keeping in perspective,
ISO 200, would be 1/125th
Plus if there was solid lighting like shown in your gallery, I'd be tempted not to use flash, or only as a soft fill, as long as you can light them all up well, with minimal shadows.

Yeah, I better add a 580EX to my wishlist again, but I don't use flash that often, so it's not urgent. All the glass in that picture was bought secondhand, and I am happy with my glass now. Wouldn't mind something longer, and a fast prime or 2, but they wouldn't be used enough to justify the expense at the moment. I might pick up a 580EX sometime if I get a killer deal, but I think my next major photographic purchase will be a 40D or 50D in a year or 2.
While we are on new gear, here are my initial impressions of my new Crumpler Karachi Outpost backpack:
1) It is big!
2) It looks cool, and doesn't really look like a camera bag.
3) It is very well made. Very heavy duty and built to last. It's got so much padding you could drop it off a tall building and your camera gear would be OK!
4) It's got cool features, like you can remove the camera compartment and use it as a normal bag, removable laptop compartment etc.
5) It is designed for security over convienience. You cannot open the bag while it is being worn. To get you camera out you have to lie it on it's back and completely unzip it.
6) It could do with more pockets for little bits and pieces like CF cards and filters.
7) There is not as much room for lenses etc as I was expecting. It fits all my gear no problem, but I was expecting more room left over for such a large bag. This is because of a) all the padding I mentioned earlier, and b) the contoured shape of the bag. The bag is deep. I think you could easily fit a 1D series in the place I have my 350D, and the 10-20 only takes up 2/3rds of the depth of it's slot, but there aren't many spaces for more lenses. Of course I could reverse mount the hood on my 17-55 :)
Overall I like it a lot. Very well made and ass long as I don't buy many more lenses will last me for years.

The tripod and head were both second hand the Legs are twice the normal $300+ model. Emma (Tall blonde, nice voice who could sell Moppie a 550 flash with no body) said it was the sort of thing a big medium format camera would be steady on.
3 way head and plate (bigger than normal head by the looks) Fully extended would be about 2mtrs to where the camara would sit. Be great for moon shots.
Im wanting something that I can add to, looking at a pano head bet they wont be cheap.
Mind you I worked it out I spend between $250-$500 a fornight on my photography.
Im just about finished should be done by xmas.
The thing is once you have all your bits digital photograhy is very cheap :)

Do you get hassled by zoo staff, keep asking if you're a professional?
I was using my 20D last time and Sigma 70-300 (small lens), and was being questioned..
Coz if you are, you must pay them big dollars, and show them everything you're going to be selling or displaying

Have just been working on my gear list to get my insurance details updated. The gear in my bag + a few bits that don't fit, like the tridod & monopod, have cost me just over $7000 in the last 18 months or so.....which is kinda a lot. Replacement value at current AC prices is more like $8500, so I have got a few good deals. Still it's a lot to spends on a hobby in a relatively short space of time. I'm glad that I'm now happy with my glass and my big spending is over.....untill the body upgrade bug bites anyway.

Just got back from a Rugby match, the zoo with Kirst, 3 neices/nephew, and Simon (forsaken) and his mrs, Nakita... Then Kirst and kids just went to McDonalds. Poor Kirst, cost over $100, and that's not including our own free entry as friends of the zoo.
Just as I got there, there was a massive group of people at the tiger enclosure, mostly with camera phones, so I pushed them aside, and snapped a few good ones I think.

The battle of the big guns. How active was the tiger this afternoon. They had just let him out when we arrived and was hiding at the back with his ball.

OK, I am now officially impressed with the 17-55 f2.8 IS....especially the IS part.
I made noobs mistake #1 when I took this shot this morning. Forgot to check my ISO. It was set to 100 on a dark overcast morning (It started p155*%g down 30 secs after I took the shot!). f9 (to get the DOF I wanted) & 1/6 sec. No tripod or monopod.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a310/scotttnz/IMG_0516_1.jpg
Yep 1/6 sec and it is sharp!
Sun is out again now, so might go out again.

If I did not have the IS, 1/6 sec handheld would have been a mistake. If I had thought about it I would have bumped the ISO to 200, or maybe 400. I guess when using this lens I may not need too.

well that was a waste of time... got there 1hr drive... set up camp ... had a feed.. walked around to scout out the venue.. not any people there yet will get busier around 10 pm..
at 11pm still not many people there.. so much for the 1000 presold tickets... (there was about 250 people max) 1am i thought bugger this I'm gonna have a couple more beers and turn in until 5 am (get sunrise over Valley). it was bloody freezing as well.
Overslept. 6:30 got up. day light ish.. walked over to venue with camera and the 70-200. took a few quick photos before security said no more thank you - no press allowed in venue. tried to explain not press have permission to photo and this is DOC land etc. No joy.. Told no photos and leave..
So went back to camp and some idiot had blocked the road out.. had to wait until 9:30 before he turned up to move..
