I managed to lose the little rubber clip-on bit wandering around Christchurch, it cost something like $25 to get another one - luckily I found a store that had one! It's really uncomfortable to use a camera without that little rubber bit!

CDS gave me a new title... I think I like it!

You can get an eyepeice extender, but you still need to clip your regular eyepeice on the end of that.. and mines broken. so yeah. Ill just continue to wipe the snot off the LCD. :S

We had two 300Ds with the eyecups lost, and the 20D with a broken clip and very loose.

Imported a collection from USA - NZ$20 each. Also tested cause of breaking - at least in my case it was due to pulling the camera up out of the camera bag using the potn short straps. It applies a twisting torque which the tabs don't withstand.

The problem is fixed by applying a small piece of double-sided tape to the rear of the eyecup. The assembly can still be removed with careful pressure to attach the angle viewer which I always use with the tripod.

But while checking further on the Canon anti-fog eyecup, I came across the rubber eye-moulded eyepiece a la video camera. Bought some, and love it - the viewfinder screen is so much clearer without side light, especially outdoors.

Also, I have the extender and use that also. The 5% magnification helps.

The eyecup and the moulded-rubber eyepiece each have metal spring tension rather than the clip: I have had no unwanted movement with these.

Have you had a look at the vents themselves? The rubber o-rings tend to break when the nozzles are moved often.

One other thing, check for cracks -- they aren't too visible but tend to let water out when the spa is filled up.

HDR in CS2 needs to have the pictures taken with different exposures via camera (M), not through raw it seens to detect the exif info, tryed with adjusting and saving different raw settings didnt like it.

Has anyone ever found CS2 HDR to be useful? I had a play, developing from RAW, and never found it very useful. Maybe you actually need to use a tripod and take multiple exposures - I don't often carry a tripod.

I did not refer to CS2's facility, which is way under the bar - it is designed to handle a very small dynamic light range. It's not surprising that it was not found very useful - a realistic assessment.

Of course you need a tripod. Exact registration of pixels is required for best results - even slight movements of the camera while changing settings can change registration. The HDR software can handle that, but it is still a fix.

And multiple exposures are requisite. That is the whole point. We as human can handle starlight to bright sunlit scenes - around 1:100,00 typically. Our cameras do about 1:1,000 after clipping off the bottom by design and the top by lack of capacity. So, we have to take exposures of 1:1000 segments of the entire dynamic light range, and then blend them appropriately.

In Fran's case, it would retain the vivid colour in the sky, and also capture dark deal of the foreground. We have become accustomed to "silhouettes" as a limitation of the camera, and make a virtue of it. Usually, I prefer the detail. It was my thought when I saw some of the GKPE group's shots at Muriwai. I felt a little low-level detail of the gannets would have enhanced the image, rather than the 1/3rd very dark that was produced.

3 exposures will help, using the bracketing function. But it is usually not enough. Expect to take at least 7 or 9 exposures 1 to 2 stops apart. For this, without touching the camera, a good remote capture package on a laptop is required. I use Breeze DSLR Remote for this.

The technique is suited only to certain subjects - fast-moving ones are out. But sunsets and building interiors are excellent.

And no, Photoshop cannot bring out the same detail. There is no detail in light levels of 0 or 255.

Me too working late, 8pm start for network Firewall changes in Melbourne/Sydney/Auckland. It has however been offset by being onsite all day at a lingerie company again. :p

HDR in CS2 needs to have the pictures taken with different exposures via camera (M), not through raw it seens to detect the exif info, tryed with adjusting and saving different raw settings didnt like it.

I have found that setting the aperture and letting the bracketing method change the shutter speed ok. Touching the camera between shots is out. And there is a lower energy demand changing shutter speed than changing aperture in the lens.

But, it must be RAW to preserve the detail as much as we can. JPEG is a blurring/smudging set of algorithms and destroys the detail which HDR technologies seek to enhance. (JPEG also injects its own artifact "details", too.)

The RAW image should be processed with no sharpening, no lifting of chroma, etc - just the bare unenhanced image data converted to TIFF.

Sounds like an a lot of effort. I'm going to wait untill that image enhancement software they use on CSI is released comercially, them I will only need 1 poorly exposed, badly framed low res jpg to get the sort of detail you are talking about. Once that software comes out I will never have to upgrade my camera or lenses again :)

No I hate it. To small for me and to light. I wouldnt buy one. I like the F2.8 / fixed looking at the 100-300 F4 good reviews. Once wazza scratches his 120-300 a bit I will look at that. I have already sold 1 55-200.

F2.8 means you can add 2xTC and retain 5.6 and Autofocus. I want to see what my 10-20 can do.

Ok the results of the 1x580ex 2x550ex and ST-E2. Group A=580ex main Group B=550ex fill #1 and hairlight #2 ...... How do I turn all this light down

The ST-E2 never failed once either on the 30degree angle with shooting in portrait or 40 degree in landsacape. Out side maybe different.

Wont be needing Alienbees now. Ratio 1:2 The hair light needs to be difused a bit great on the hair but spill on to skin and its PS time. Might try abit of tissue over it.

So guys get your gals all dressed up and come over and shoot them weka studio is up and running.

Too small and light.....not the normal critisism of this lens, but I guess when you are used to lugging a bigma around......

I thought about the 100-300, and it seems like a great lens, but decided against it for 2 reasons:
1) if you get a 70-200 f2.8 + 1.4TC you also get a 98-280 f4 which is not far off a 100-300 f4, but if you get a 100-300 f4 you will never get f2.8 with it. And...
2) I could not justify the price of a new 100-300 and unlike the 70-200 there do not seem to be any on the second hand market.

I'm not sure how much bigger and heavier the 100-300 is compared to the 70-200 + TC?
