those card raders with HDD are expensive.. for an extra $200 you can get a laptop with built in card reader.also can have built in adobe photoshop for a little extra..

Exactly.
If I can get a case for around $50, I can add a HDD for another 100, making it quite resonable.
Otherwise its just easier buy a whole lot more 1gb CF cards.

I must admit that you have some truth to what you say. I have got a cheap laptop at home which is used for downloading but going anywhere I am not going to take it with me. Just too big.
I was thinking of getting one of the epson devices, from what I have read the screen is really good and it can download many 1gb cards on a single charge. However I am looking at the canon ones if/when they get released.

When it comes to downloading I only download things I wont to watch or listen to. I know there are a lot of people out there that download everything they find. but never have the time to watch it. If I don't like it I don't keep it.
However there's a part of me that wants to collect things. I have a DVD collection. in the past I used to collect trading cards. These days I collect TV shows I like to watch.

Now he said that the guy who was fixes sigma lens is away and didn't get back till Tuesday this week. So I am going to give it a week and then see what happens.

Aha!
Thats better, although very expensive.
What about just a case with the card reader in it and a battery, then I can get a drive from techpac.
There are lots of just cases on Ebay, about US$30-40. However the international shipping cost is also US$30-40.
These guys in Aus are where I got my "Tripper" - cheapest case is about AU$62

Maybe it is that IT people who have digital cameras are more likely to go looking for an online forum to talk about them? And that is how we all ended up here....

My wife is very very good to me. My goal is to show her in return that my photography can make us more money so she can work less, and have more time to enjoy life with our girls.
I have to wait and perfect my skills, like getting into the IT industry with no quals or experence, some one will give me a chance and a door will open. The time is not right but it will happen.
For me the ideal photo job would be NZ landscapes / wildlife been outdoors. Down side is been away from home.

Film forces you to be disciplined with your shooting. It also doesn't give you as much flexiblity in PP, so you need to spend more time getting it right in the first place.
theflyingkiwi
26th of October 2006 (Thu), 15:35

I really don't know. Some people claim that after shooting in film they have a better understanding of how to take a decent photograph.
I think it comes down to the fact that you just can't keep taking photos until you get it right. so you end up thinking about the photograph before you press the shutter button.

A film camera is on my 'to do' list, but not a 35mm (been there done that, have the box of negatives), if I go film is will be medium format, have looked at the twin lens relex Rollei's, nice, drives a bit like my old Kodak (as per avatar) which I can no longer get film for :(

Hi All
Well, went over the targa at Manfeild yesterday and have hopefully got some good shots, pretty much all panning ones as the photo opportunities without media passes are limited to the front straight :S
I was standing next to a guy also with a canon camera, so I told him about this place, but neither of us had a pen, (or others around us) so I couldn't write down the site for him, but I told him to goodle GKPE on the net, so hopefully he will find us!
I am supposed to be studying for an exam on Tuesday, so shouldn't really have pics online before that hehe - but I am the worlds best study procrastinator so they will probably be online over the weekend lol
(BTW - even tho I haven't actually made it to a GKPE yet.... can I still have a profile on the site?)

I presume you are looking at a well-lit plain wall and trying to get the focus-point squares into sharp focus.
I wonder if it is possible to insert the replacement screen upsidedown.
A friend has a 20D that needs the viewfinder screen replacing, as the previous owner had clearly tried to clean it and had used a solvent. I understand that we can buy a replacement screen, and there are instructions for replacing them in connection with third-party prismatic screens.

On the 5D you can get different screens. They go one way and one way only due to the design.

Well Ive printed 4 6x4 and 1 A4 and Im impressed. I waited to long to print stuff thing they werent that good.
Does make you go over your photos with a fine tooth comb before you print though. I have some more to learn re printing but Im happy with the results so far.
I think the A3 will be one of the ones from the studio day. It is the only photos I have as us as a family all in the photo, makes me realise how lucky I am to have a beautiful wife and to healty lovely daughters.
While Im been a bit senitamental I would like to thank the group for all the support and freindship shown during my time here. Shame I can make tommorow. Thats why we have mini GKPE
Finally, Tony is in touch with his feminine side:p You are such a teddy bear...:D
Thanks
I found out the DOF really works when it's printed big. my friend that I have printed it for wanted it today, but I am teasing her, not till sunday.
Well, if she sees your new title she will realise why she s getting it on Sunday...
From our Thailand shots.... No, this is not me.
Me thinks we need to go out on a mini-GKPE to prove it isn't you. I hear that Thailand is a heck of a place to get plastic surgery -- they even have real looking hair on your chest:p
Similar warranty to the Rolax that I bought :D
You couldn't resits could you... Did you get it from MBK (Maboonkrok... I think) -- thye have Yoyex and Omegad for a couple hundred dollars but they are top of the line and even the authorised service centres can't tell the real from fake.

Thats definitely not me... I went in later with the sigma :D
Altho I take your point about the surgery, I saw some very impressive looking cleavage on some very masculine 'women'.
Actually I shopped around desperately to find a Rolax, but all they had was Rolex. I was quite gutted, but still bought a few. I didn't know about MBK?
I said to the street vendor "So... I probably shouldn't get these wet then?"
and he says "Well... Ok, I tell you... They're not real, they're fake."
Me: " :rolleyes::lol: I'm not American"
Him: "Oh, so yeah, don't get it wet, maybe shower sometimes ok."

The 30mm went great, I was a little concerned about the 28-70, so I just used it around f/8 most of the time.
The studio work was fun, but still needs to come a long way before I'd want to post! The background is the main thing, we did the shoot on a really small budget, so just used a sheet. Tiny room, so couldn't get the model far enough away from the background. Next time (if there is one), will use the garage or something :)

After Half a bottle of Vodka (and dog bless the new ff 2.0 speel checker), I think Im fully qualified to comment on this things:
1, the Nifty fifty 50 1.8 is a really great little lens. Don't list.en to Tim, rum isn't as objective as vodka. The nifty is a great lens.
2, Since rum isnt as objective as Vodka I can conclude that the canon EF 50 1.8 is a really good lens.
3, The Canon 50 1.8 is a really nice lens, good length on an APS-C sensor, with a nice fast aperture, and very sharp considering its price. Possibly the single best value for money prime ever made.
4, Im right and timmy boy is wrong.
5, Long live the Llama.
