I think I may have sold a picture...

Well done Fran! It takes some momentum to keep you going... and when that happens you will have more orders than you can handle!!!

I've been asked to shoot a friends weeding next year, it scares me just thinking about it but I think it would be a good experience.

congrats Fran, selling pictures is good

Si -- enough time to practice shooting. Suggest you corner Warren and get tips from him. Tim is on the other side of the island so you might have to contend with on-line chats... The group believes you can do it and we are sure you will do well.

Hi All

Nice work Fran :)

Wonder if I should venture out to the local kart track here - not with a view to sell, but I guess it is a good place to keep working on technique?

Go for it Tracy! Practice makes perfect!

The 400mm F5.6 is a great kid portrait lens, as they can play and not know you are taking their photo.
Great birding lens but would need to learn to pan.

This is/was the next lens I wanted how ever the 30D + Bigma combo is more usefull and greater range. So do I need it NO.

The bigma is OK but like previous posts you need a fast shutter speed. See the pic in a previous post with my 'naughty' picture. I still think it's a great lens for the money. However, mine was dropped before I got it and it doesn't fit quite right. The optics seem fine but it was quite a struggle to mount it.

I had to get the 24-70. The 28-135 is just too soft. Plus I've been asked to take some outdoor family portraits for work colleagues. My sister said sharp glass is a must. Oh well, buy L. I'm also a firm believer in buying the best you can afford.

Ive got lightbulbs going off with this new book. This guy studied with Ansel Adams. The book is well written and he assumes you know very little about PP
its not a photoshop book but a workflow one. He explains why certian things are done in the order they are done in.

So from my point I have the equipment. I have the basics of photography and PP now it time to refine the craft.

The zone system is very intresting and I think once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature.

What book are you referring to, Tony? Sounds interesting.

Just to the right of the CDROM and floppy drive, just below one of the 3.5inch harddisks is a little pop out tray. Too small to put a CDROM drive into, two thin for anything else, perfect for holding ones cup of coffee whilst working away on the server :D

BTW is is an xSeries 335.

Cool Photo Idea for the Weekend

It is Guy Fawkes this weekend and many of us will have fireworks, and some have families too.

Try this, instead of just shooting pics of fireworks and flash shot of the kids (if you have any) with sparklers, chuck a flash on your camera, set it to second curtain sync, put the now have a play with some slow shutter speeds, you will get a cool blur shot with the action frozen at the end by the flash. Much trial and error needed to get it right though!

Reckon Tony will return in a future life as a Canon L lens? Maybe 10mm F1? :D

On to something far less fanciful....
All you techies, I want to add my daughter's laptop to my wireless network at home. Currently I have a pc connected to a Linksys Wireless G Broadband router which is linked to an ADSL modem. My laptop is connected wirelessly to the Linksys> I would like to add her laptop so she too can browse the internet (not networked to my pc however) but it needs a "WAP key". I know when the dealer set my laptop up to 'connect', he made it so no passing laptop could freely join my connection. So any clues on how to add her laptop?
Would appreciate some tips!

If you don't have the key handy then you need to log in to the linksys and see if it shows you what the key is. If not then you'll have to create a new one and enter it on both laptops and have the key written down and put in a safe place.

(Take all 3 into your "dealer" and have him do it and give you a copy of the key as well).

you will need the 25 digit wep key.. does you laptop allow people to remote in.. if so i could try to login and find the key for you. or set a new key up for you.. PM for details.. the other option would be me to talk you through the process over the phone..

BUGGER! The law needs to get tougher. I say that if someone breaks the law, they shouldn't have human rights left.

India, Saudi Arabia are not great places to live in but people do get things cut off for certain offences... Doing that will surely reduce crime around here!

I don't care. We seem to pamper these sorts of 'people' in the name of rehabilitation. Our exhorbatent taxes pay for their three square meals, plasma TVs, video game systems etc when areas the government should be spending on is crumbling around our ears.

The selling of the 30D and Bigma has been going through my head. They dont get used much, however its nice to have a backup and if I was to go to the zoo I dont need to lug my backpak with me.
So at this stage I am better off keeping, also the 30D does 5fps. Mind you it would get me a 400mm F5.6 prime and a couple of smaller primes or it could pay for a 50mmF1.2
