Well I got a responce back from Craig Potten

here is my question
"What is required to make money from landscape photography"

here is the responce

"Your email asks a question too big for me. Some quick advice .You have to get published to be recognized ..so I virtually gave my photos away at first to get published ..magazines mainly ...and wrote stories to go with them. You can submit to companies like ours for selling photos to our calenders.... see addresses on back..... of calender companies in book shops and submit some images.photobanks don't work any more otherwise good luck regards Craig"

Well, if he's given you an opertunity to submitt photos to his publishing company then give it a go.
That said Im pretty sure you don't need to give them away to get noticed, you just need to find away to get them out there, to get noticed.

It maybe something as simple as knowing the right people, maybe the head of a large corperate who wants a company calander, or someone in the publishing industry who needs some images.

Of course if you don't have those contacts then just send images to as many places as you can, and see what sort of response you get.
Make it clear with the image submission that you retain all copyrights, and the image is just being submitted for assesment.
If they like it, then they can come back to you, and either ask to use it for free, or offer to pay for it, and you can deciede what you think the image, vs how much exposure it could get, is worth.

Make it clear with the image submission that you retain all copyrights, and the image is just being submitted for assesment.
The images will almost certainly be separated from any text, usually on receipt. The IPTC fields should be used to declare copyright info. Most reputable publishers will see that on-screen with the image. They therefore cannot use lack of knowledge as an excuse for non-payment "There was no indication of copyright status or who the copyright holder was, so I treated it as public domain." Our law seems to permit such defence - "reasonable steps". Checking the IPTC is a reasonable step. A copyright holder distributing images without such data could be seen as placing the images in public domain. No declaration - no enforceable copyright.

Tony, if you get a new house with a big mortgage your lens buying could be slowed down a bit. Solution: buy the whole L range now (put it on the mortgage:oops: ) then you won't need anything when you are a ditcom. (thats double income, two children, oppresive mortgage.....better than being a sitcom!)

As I've thrown a sickie today I had a little GKPE for one, well two as the missus came as well. As the greenery was passing by an idea struck me. Those ideas are dangerous when left unattended on the road. Anyway, I was OK, nothing broken. But how about a GKPE library? Everyone can list their photography books that they have (and wouldn't mind lending). If someone wants lendsies, they are given a date for return and off it goes?

Crap idea? Should it have been left on the road where it struck me? Or do-able.

2 sides of the coin -- 1) he is a publisher and may find your pictures interesting and then give you a break; or 2) It his his way of telling you politely to go take a hike and submit it elsewhere.

I've got to wrap a desktop computer up, put it in a backpack, hop on my motorbike and go 70km to deliver it out into the back blocks of Motueka.

Has anyone seen/heard from MHP lately?

Mark/MHP is on the "Love Boat" doing cruise pictures etc. with his partner. The is a fantastic job he's got -- being paid to do what he is good at whilst giving him the chance to see the world...

Growing old dosnt worry me it is growing weak and frail. The reality is that we were only meant to live to about 60 anyway, modern science is trying to make us live beyond what we were designed for. The ramafications of that on society.

Yippie I want to spend my retirement dribbling and wearing a diper and have all this money that I cant use anyway. Dont even mention what about my kids.

My sentiments exactly. If I become unable to take pictures, and become a burden to my wife, kids and society I would rather not live and cause misery for others.

Now, if science makes me live longer, with the energy and resiliency of an 18 year old, free from ailments or deseases then I might think about getting to 100.

if they use decent servers and have good data streams then yep i will host with em, also the price needs to be right. the offer the i got with the off shore crowd was good. They offer huge storage, daily backups, masses of email space and 24 hr staff help.

Well you tell me.

for as long as I can remember its had this issue where, when you boot up,
It wont boot of the drives you set in the bios boot order - the only way to get it to boot of a drive was to push F11 to get the boot menu during POST and select the drive there.

XP installation hangs in different parts, and lots of general weirdness.

I've tried two diffrent installation media, three different IDE channels. The 160gb drive im trying to install on is but a couple months old.

I've been out with my PC for far too long - i have photos to process!

Sounds an obvious question, but when you set the order in bios, you are hitting "save and exit" instead of just "exit" right?

Is the order actually remaining in the correct order once you set it?

Not that the above should make much difference, as the bios should still just move to the next drive in the order after discovering that your disk drive is empty...

try removing all hte drives that are not needed for the install . and if possible the graphics card. complete a standard install. then re attach graphics after installing drivers, then reattach each of the other drives until complete. Check for jumpers in the drives. don't forget to wipe the HDD for the reinstall it makes a much cleaner load. PM for any help.

Tbh, it sounds like all your problems stem back to the motherboard. If you were just having problems with the drives, or just the graphics cards, or just the install, then I could understand... But all at the same time?

Do you have another machine that you can swap parts with to check?

Sometimes the order for home pages is set to something like index.html, index.htm, default.html, default.htm. So if you uploaded an index.htm page the site will still go for the index.html page first. I would delete any index pages and then upload.

I used nlite for an unattended install. Set and forget. I think XP only takes up about 300MB. I would do what shrimper says. Only have attached the drive you want XP loaded and reattach other drives when it's all good to go. But then again don't listen to me as I'm definately not in IT.

index.html, index.htm, default.html, default.htm are all valid names. The webserver will look for any of them, and display them first. If there are any pages named with any of those names, then something will be displayed.

The DNS servers just haven't been updated to say that tonysearle.co.nz should point to his host's server yet.

I know they're all valid but one of my sites let me choose which page I wanted as the 'home' page. It had default.html at the top of the list. When I uploaded an index file it went straight to the default page. It wasn't until I deleted the default page that it saw my own index page. If you see what I mean in a rather convoluted roundabout way of explaining it. Like I said, I'm not an IT person in whatever shape or form. I even need "How Turn on Your PC for Dummies" ;)

use the onboard graphics if you have it.
Update Motherboard bios.
If you are still having issues then a hardware fault seems possible.
the XP you are using (the media matches the PID - ie oem to oem ) or your cd drive maybe faulty.

if you can reset the bios back to factory. boot into bios and f5 then f10 save and exit. this can reset all settings. ( had a compac that would not let a reinstall untill i had done this)

other than that i can fly up (you pay) ;) and install over weekend.

might be shot in the dark, but make sure the 1 & only target hard drive is set to be an IDE master (& use lowest IDE number channel for it), then put the DVD drive on the other seperate IDE channel - also can be an IDE master. If this gets the install off the ground then put the other drives back in ensuring they're both IDE slaves.
I've seen machines that run "sortof" with two slave drives on the same IDE cable, you gotta have one master & one slave...

well I saw on the news that some poor sod had their car crushed by a tree. You know there any place that a tree could fall and it had to go on someones cars. go figure

Last December over in South Africa we turned a corner in Port Alfred and there was a car stopped in the middle of the road with it's front windscreen smashed in and a branch lying beside the car.
Must have happened less than 2 mins earlier.
They were some strong winds.
