I hope you pointed him to this forum as you helped him to his feet and brushed off the tyre marks across his jacket. Secondly, I hope he is from the SI to give us down here a bit more leverage.

I fighting to get broadband at the moment. Has been a multi month battle. Apparently it's going to be turned on next Tuesday !! :) :) :)
Even here in Germany it can be difficult to get. I have ordered a 6000 speed, but might only get 1000. We'll see.

don't laugh, I rang Ihug the other day to do exactly that: can my broadband and go to a 3 hour-per month dialup account!

My deal will depend on the speed I get.

If I only get 1000 then 28 Euro / month for
ISDN base fee.
Flat rate Telephone in Germany
Flat rate Internet

If I get a 6000 speed, then it will cost 48 / month.

Awww Tony, I would have had the 50 1.4!

My 50mm isn't reliable.

My flash is no longer firing the red focus assist beam! So can't take photos in complete darkness.

And just now, my phone broke, when I was changing my sim cards over (bought a 2nd sim yesterday for supa prepay, $6 all I like to call and text Kirst :p) - but now incredibly frustrated, everything going wrong. Tomorrow, I go and pay my share of the trip. Kirst covered the deposit when I was a bit tight for cash mid year, but now it's not so bad. Still wish I had some more. :(

Theres a 50 1.4 on trademe at the moment, a second hand glam special.
Its at $500 at the moment.
But you could land a new one from B&H for that much, so you have to wonder why you would bother with a used one thats over 10 years old.

I buy lens now for a good reason. Not just because I can. I am 100% covered for landscape thus trading primes for 24-105.

What I have is also fine for Studio work. It is out door model work (if it takes off) where I will need 1,2 maybe 3 good primes.

The 70-200 F2.8 needs a good run :)

Nice pics Mark. Though on my screen it can do with a little contrast... or levels adjustment...

No, didn't get him, these are the last two of a series of five but it was close, there is a reason not to be on the outside of corners

Just paid a massive bill this month, 90% of it from calling and texting Kirst, she also had a bill just under $200. So that's when I finally cracked and paid $55 for a new sim with some credit for Supa Prepay. :(

Chris, I would have the camera on shutter speed 1/320s and leave the apature set to auto, don't adjust the iso unless you are getting underexposed shots. and then see how you go.

for your location on the track, see if you can get somewhere on a corner and also have a location for panning shot.

for panning, set the shutter to about 1/250 or 1/200 and practice.

I don't have tickets for tonight, but went to buy some merchandise, because I'm working tomorrow, so the queues will be a mile long by the time I get there. I heard they have very limited stock of some stuff too.

I'm so pumped, I can't wait until tomorrow night! It's a Once in a lifetime thing to see your favourite band from right in front of the stage!

From my POV there's no sense of speed. They could be parked on the track waiting for the towie. We know they're giving it heaps but it's not shown. Lighting looks harsh as well.

I think I read somewhere stick it on Tv about 1/160, ISO 400, A1 servo. Panning isn't as difficult as it seems. Just remember to follow the car all the way through the shot. This is where digital has a definate edge ove film as you can see the results straight away.

Don't use ISO400, especially at 1/160!!

ISO 100, on a sunny day, at 1/160th, will be around F18..

400 will be what? F30???! Massive dust spot problems.

Shoot anything from 1/125th to 1/320th for coming at you shots, or frontal 3/4,a nd slower if a dead side on pan... Iso 100, maybe 1/3 under if you're getting blown highlights, and just monitor the aperture - most lens sharp spot is approx F8-F11... So you don't want to be shooting at F30

theflyingkiwi

Chris don't worry about the maths. Just keep an eye on the setting while you are taking photos. If you worry to much about the settings then you are going to miss enjoying taking photos.

You could just create a little card that you keep in your pocket with those settings. that way you can remember then while out on the track.

Also keep in mind that you have to keep an eye for cars, they will hurt you if you get in the way.

Don't use ISO400, especially at 1/160!!

ISO 100, on a sunny day, at 1/160th, will be around F18..

400 will be what? F30???! Massive dust spot problems.

Shoot anything from 1/125th to 1/320th for coming at you shots, or frontal 3/4, and slower if a dead side on pan... Iso 100, maybe 1/3 under if you're getting blown highlights, and just monitor the aperture - most lens sharp spot is approx F8-F11... So you don't want to be shooting at F30

This is Southland remember. Sunny days are few and far between, especially when the motor racing is on.;) I certainly don't use 400 all the time. If it's sunny I'll crank it down.

Definitely for lenses.
Esp. for internal focussing ones like the 70-200 f4 where the front and rear elements are non-moving/sealed.

Whenever I get home from shooting I go over the camera and lenses inside and out with the rocket blower and then a cloth over the outside as well to get rid of the dust.

It gets really dusty sometimes :D

Interesting...

I was told, If you have been shooting in wet muggy conditions to leave your gear in front of a radiator heater for a couple of hours, That is to dry any mud or moisture in or on the lens and body... then with a brush just brush all the dust off. It works really well. He said never uses a blower, it doesn't matter how well they are sealed it will always get in.

As for the body he said it isn't too bad as long as you hold the body upside down to make sure the dust falls out and not blow it in further.

he also said he doesn't use a blower at all for the body, but I can't remember what he said to use, so I'll have to find out.

Cool pic by the way :)

Well I guess it is, something I never manage to catch tho. And it's not like they haven't tried. during primary school, everyone had to play rugby and soccer for the school, hated it each year. Which was fine until collage where the PE teachers gets the boys to play rugby and who knows what they did with the girls.

Oh and then there is the fact that anything remotely news worthy about the rugby, seems to take the headlines. Like everyone is interested in that.

As you can see I am not really a fan of the sport.

Weka......Talks to himself, shoots by himself there is something not quite right.

I have a spear camera and lens. You would be better off with my gear anyway ;)

What, the 5D, is that dry now? Did you ever send it in to canon to get it checked out?

I only have 2 lens in with canon, 28-135 and the 100 macro

still got the 17-40 and the sigma to use.

at this stage I am not planning anything for the break between xmas and new year. could do something then.

5D is fine. I decided to see if it dies, if it does then its a 1DsMK2. If a camera cant take abit of abuse then I will get the next model up.

Wife has approved my next "L" Will know Wednesday as to focul length 85 or 135 L Glam has both

I would go with the 135L myself. If you are going to be shooting a lot of models outside then this will be the lens to go for. However shooting models in a studio, well then 85 would be the one. You have got the 24-105 to cover the wide etc.

but that's just my personal space.
