Good on ya! It is a bit disturbing that they would sell a camera with faults.... so unlike Canon (or the Japs) to be slack... then again, things are changing... I can imagine the pressure to sell more at such a short span of time... quality gets thrown out the door...

Thanks for that, I was to worried about damaging it :)

It was raining, so I stuck the whole lot inside a plastic bag and taped the bag to the hood.
It worked really well, untill the filter fogged up.
I even cut little holes for the strap to fit through.
Unfortunalty I didn't count on it being cheap parcel tape that would leave some residue on the hood :(

Was fanastic for shooting the golf because it was so fast to focus, and when attached to the 20D was even fooled by a fogged up filter, it still hit perfect focus everytime.

Heck even with a 2xTC is still better than my Bigma at same focal length. Dam I need more money this hobby is expensive.

Have decided to stick with the 5D body and spend money on GOOD glass. Still hate the look of white lens, oh well black satin spray bomb or air brush

Pete get the fejoias sorted out

Working on it, I really have two choices, first put up surveillance cameras and razor wire, or just pick them up to remove the temptation. Yesterday we caught a guy right up by our deck after dark, he also played the no speak english ploy... Picked up two supermarket bags full yesterday, make great juice! Its not the taking of the fruit that bugs me, it is how far onto our property people are going to get them

Got an e-mail from a Computer/Network supplier in Albany today who shall remain nameless (except they were bought by another NZ supplier last year and moved their warehouse south)
Anyways, this supplier being a Canon supplier, haven't ever done SLR's before (sure I would have noticed...) The interesting bit in all this ramble is they've dropped their dealer buy pricing for the 20D - $1699 +GST +shipping for body only, $1850 +GST + shipping for body & 18-55 kit lens. interesting? huh?

That's the ones I was talking about, Fran ;)
Warren and I scammed media / all access passes on Saturday in Taupo. (yay for the big lens attracting attention)

Warhawk and Nitehawk ran a couple times (Nitehawk got a 5.7s pass 8-))

We have pics, Warren waltzed around on the strip taking shots of the two Jet powered funny cars while the drivers were being interviewed. I feel the need to add a woot here. w00t! (sorry)

I have little mpeg vids of Warhawk running last year, at night, at Meremere. They're a bit wobbly because I was freezing and trying to cover one ear in an aide to avoid certain deafness.. if ya wanna see, let me know. I can post linkages :)

The best thing for me about the 'hawks was watching them smoothly creep up to the line with all wheels locked up

No wheelieing off the line though :(

Took a few pics but the car for me was Chris Tynans. You could feel each exhaust pulse in your chest 50 m away :D

Anyone ever considered working for Canon and having discounts?

Yeah Pete, I'm going to be working for the government ;)
Just counting down those 26 weeks.

I should have enough money to last 6-8 weeks but then minus trips to Palmerston North, Kirst's birthday blah blah, leaves me 4-6 weeks.
The earlier I can find some work, the more camera gear I can buy with gear afterwards. ;)

Wazza

A summary?

I quit work 4 weeks ago, and have 4 days left.

I'm now needing just a part time job to tie me over, and could probably do just about anything. Customer service... print shop.. sales.. I even think there was a job going at Auckland Camera last week as there was a morningside number for a photography shop assistants job.

Leaving work, I'm getting 24 days holiday pay, so I can live off that for a few weeks.

20th May I have a wedding..
As well as
1st January in Fiji
4th or 11th Feb 2007
25th Feb 2007
2nd March 2007 in Rarotonga

So I can't live off getting paid from just a few weddings.

Dear Warren,

Thanyou for you letter regarding employment at Canon. I note with much interest your large collection of Sigma lenses. Unfortunately we are unable to offer you employment at this time......if however you would like to give your Sigmas to Scott, thus avoiding any conflict of interest issues, please feel free to re-submit your application.

Hmmm, a while ago at my previous employer they wanted me to do some work for the DIA (Department of Internal Affairs), when DIA security checked me, they found I had dual citizenship (UK and NZ) so therefore failed the security check.

Anyway if you apply for a job a Canon, and they find out about that Sigma lens you own :D

Camera House are advertising $3299 with the 17-85 ( Iknow they are not exactly known for their bargin prices, but neither are Harvey Norman).

maybe we sould open it up, after all I found a dummy in my back yard that said return to wellington if found.

Heres an idea for the other side of our photograpgy challange. Photoshop, I dont know how many of the group are any good at this, but I wouldnt mind upskilling in PP.

Just a thought, mind you this is comming from the same person who believes that if you have to "PP" your photos you need to learn how to photograph (RAW is different).........

scotttnz

RAW is different

Why is RAW different? RAW enables powerful abilities to alter the image after the shutter button is pressed. How is that different to alot of what we do in photoshop? Don't get me wrong I LOVE RAW now that i have discovered it, but I can't see how you can say RAW processing is good processing and Photoshop is bad processing, when RAW gives you more ability to correct a bad image than photoshop does.....

Setup the threads (1 for the pics and the other for the chat) and lets discuss ideas. Your in charge :)

As for RAW been different. Simple it can all be done on the camera. Via the cameras settings. Sharpness, colour, exposure etc. Your not adding anything the camera cant do.

Yes you can do it in camera, but the point is that you are not. You are doing it later in the comfort of your office with the capability of being able to compare different settings to see what you like, rather than getting the shot right in the first place.
