i am in the process of design my two web sites - thats fun and games.

I also have media passes to the NZ V8's, Super 14, and NZ soccer. Doing some PP on some shots of todays game. (soccer)

Apart from that and until i can get my web presence and camera skills up to a level that i am happy with i am staying away from paid work.

Also my other job, two kids, wife and two dogs keep me too busy

Hi all, im new around here, have my trusty 350d which i have had since april last year.
Did I see someone mention they needed a manual for their wife, I solved having to need any help with a husband, I divorced him a few years ago. lol. Hope to post some pics soon if not ones I have already are on my blog, cheers. :)

I'm going to Scotland and Wales at Easter via Egypt with my Dad to chase up where his grandparents came from, so I'm trying to get my skill base up a bit with a camera. He's 88 so I may not get another chance. And getting a high def photo of the cathedral in Barbadoes St. I'm taking 2 lots of 10 photos each at a 2-4 f stop difference on a home made pano head and stitching with autopano pro and then blending to to get a larger dynamic range. My page file is running at 1.5 gb so it's fairly slow even with most of microsoft's stuff stripped out. It's teaching me about layers and NOT to shoot with a polarising filter on, even with a small pano. The end file size will be about 50-60 mb I guess. I put a large brick beside my laptop and quietly explain its use, and it definitely seems to help it to stop crashing.

A4. I'm really trying to find how much detail will go into a photo done my printer and in the process learn more about getting stuff off the screen and onto the wall. And to shoot into the light and still get the foreground properly exposed. The cathedral at dawn is a very interesting subject.. the sunrise is behind it and shines through the glass in the dome and composition is difficult without standing on the road and getting knocked over.

Hi to the newbies from me too,
Man that is a great photo of the comet.
I haven't even seen it yet.

I have had two Lexar Pro 1gb cards crap out on me. Both have been replaced without questions as they have a lifetime guarantee. Luckils I didn't loose anything. Both happened in a photo shooting & I could still read the images, or it was when the card was nearly empty

joeseph

are you sure that's your CF card and not your filter in front of your sensor?
I have been wrong before... ;)

I'm going to Scotland and Wales at Easter via Egypt with my Dad to chase up where his grandparents came from

Mmmmmm.... Egypt, nice. Lotsa photography to be had there Here's some of mine from a visit in 2004 (been there twice). http://joebloggs.servebeer.com/Egypt/index.htm

i applied - but they wanted to let every know two weeks before the event who had a pass. so i withdrew my application. :( could not risk booking flights and accom to be told sorry no pass. or getting the pass and not getting flights etc. and with two weeks notice the flights would have been to expensive.

yea I knew someone had one... would have been a good event to go to.

Can I ask how a computer tech gets a media pass? I know some on the motorsport thread might frown upon it but I have to ask.

Go to Repco or Supercheap and buy el cheapo magnetic orange flashing light. Make up some A4 prints that simply say 'SURVEY' and stick them on your car. Park it in the middle of the road with the flashing magnetic light on the roof. Your camera on a tripod will give an air of doing something official.

Ok Here's something photography related. Hi, David here from Chch. Just bought a silicon power 2gb cf card for 350d. Formatted it, shot a few photos and camera froze and wouldn't switch off. reformatted and managed to get 40 photos onto laptop and got "cf error", tried reformatting and got "error 99" I put in the old 512 card and camera works fine. Anyway, the card goes back on Monday. Anyone else had this happen?

David, welcome aboard!!!

That was 200mm at 2.8 ... If i had a spare $7500 or so then i would get a 400mm or a suit of armour (then i could just sit in there)

yep nice big enclosure - it use to be a drive through safari park. i reckon that the lions must have a good 5 acres or so to roam.

I've left my camera at Kirst's, thought she'd put the lens to good use if I'm unable to use them over the coming days.

Another 6 day week for myself, then I'm hoping I can have a Saturday/Sunday weekend!

Thought I'd post a failure. I hoped the field of view would be small enough to use a polarizer. Not so! Great big dark band In the sky. Twenty raw photos stitched into 2 layers and blended. No other processing as I'll abandon this one.Shot after sunset the other day. The small photo is detail above the first column with a little sharpening. Maybe ok for the lens (sigma 17-70)

Two rows of 5 photos bracketed. selected 2 from each bracket (2 f stops apart) and rendered in autopano. So I had one with a cathedral I liked so I cut out the sky on that and blended onto the other using layers in PSP X. Send down some nice clouds please and I'll have another go.

I use a tablet all the time. I have learnt a lot more on how to use it with photograph with a few lessons I downloaded on the net.

I have used one for almost 10 years now :) the thing is great to use.

Hi All

Back from the A1GP (and you are right, no media pass here :))

It wasn't great for photography - big high fences around the bits where you could see the track - although from up in the stands you had a good view, but to get the 'coming out of the corner' shots you needed a longer lens than my 70-200 with 1.4 teleconverter attached. I guess I could have tried taking a few photos through the fence to see what they would have turned out like, but I was too lazy!

Getting around the track was a bit tricky too - to get from one side to the other (unless you had a 'special' pass of some sort you had to go out to the road, then walk around to the other side, then back into the track again - but don't think things would have been any different from there... Will take a look at my photos later and post something if there is anything good hehe

Was still a great weekend, but I have to say our NZV8s provided better racing than the A1GP cars did :)

Don't do what I did though will you...I was ready to throw the computer out the window one afternoon. Thought it had caught a virus as the mouse pointer would not move. Did all the usual checks but couldn't shift the pointer from the centre of the screen. Stupid idiot, I had only gone and left the pen in the middle of the tablet  and gone back to the mouse.!!!

Yeah, I'm alive, was on vacation for awhile, now I'm working some rather odd hours. Yeah, it's a great lens, I highly doubt I'll buy another lens for quite sometime yet. Never sorted out that red light thing, kinda gave up on it, its only on really long exposures anyways where there is much noise, so probably not worth worrying about aye. Finally we have sunshine huh.

No ... that won't make any difference.
Seems to be a problem that the monitor can't display 640 x 480 or something which is used at boot time.
Make sure you have the latese drivers & they are installed. Though I think they will only help when windows has started.

It works fine with the CRT but won't show anything with the flat panel. It'll be a PITA having to swap displays every time I want to boot into something else or change BIOS. I'm going to upgrade the graphics card anyway to a DVI one.

I was in Austria & at least we had a white christmas there, but this is the forst snow we have hade in Munich all year. & at this time last year I was shoveling metres of snow every morning. Hope we get lots as all ski areas can't operate due to lack of snow.

Is the monitor brand new? I'm picking it's actually faulty unless there's anything in the manual about not being able to display low res.
The other test would be to try it on another pc.

You may find it works with Vista installation as the Vista installer boots into WinPE at 800x600 to image the hdd (installation is quite different (a lot simpler but a lot more pawerful if you want) to xp).

Keeping your horizon level is one tip that some of us (including me) tend to forget. Add foreground interest. Open up your aperture to get good depth of field. Other than that, post your pics when you get back!
