No worries Chris.

I just spent the most frustrating hour of my day...

Downloaded a new small Windows file for exif info..
First it said I had to have .NET 2.0 installed. Before that 22Mb file would load, my computer required to verify it's legit, and said I was unable to do any MS update.

That was checked, ok.
Next it said was unable to install the 22mb file, as a prerequisite for .NET 2.0 was Windows Installer 3.0 which wasn't ... installed.

So I had to go back to MS page - again it asked me to verify my PC!!

After verifying, this thing installed, only to click the button to finish, but automatically shut down my PC, after having several windows and files open, and Photoshop (good way to corrupt files).

Finally get back on, .NET installs, takes 15min+ and is finished.

Click to install PhotoInfoSetup.msi - said error, - must be running Windows SP 2, and then closed itself.

Why couldn't that warn me before. !!!

Anyone else know how to ADD exif to an image .

Nice one Chris!

Aggghhhh....I can't believe it. After all my advice, and the killer deal I got him on a 400D (Wholesale!) my Dad went and bought a Sony DSLR! Sucked in by all the marketing gimicks!

My commiserations Scott! I guess all the marketing hype does pull some people in... It is why I guess they spend millions... Oh well, he will probably come around shortly.

Im nissed as a pewt!!!!!!!!!

??? Why?

The circle at the end isn't aligned. I use IE7. And it is orange and blue.

Btw, nice pics. I can't wait to be set right so I can go out and take pics... the bloody fever and inflamation came back! Oh well, at least what I have is not fatal:rolleyes:

That's an oldie. Who has the time to make things like that?
Loads of snow here today, off to the mountains with the kids to walk up to a mountain hut, then do some tobogganning. Skiing is not really good at the moment & as it is the first weekend most areas are open, there will be loads of people.

JPEG always shoots in RAW too.

It was a stitch image, so it doesn't have the info for that reason. :)

Oh well, I chose a different landscape entry. Got a few entries in for the POTN book. Would like 1 in there, would be pretty cool, but competition seems tough.

Why couldn't that warn me before. !!!

Anyone else know how to ADD exif to an image .

Why didn't it warn you? Well, it has to scan your whole computer to check everything, do a lot of snooping, rechecking, phoning home etc. Then it tells you that you need something else...!!!

All that photo info tool does, as far as I can see, is let you add dates, keywords and other minor information, I don't think it lets you change the EXIF info. Have you looked at Exifpro (http://www.exifpro.com/)? It's free (ish) and very quick to load RAW files. Weka is a convert. I'm sure it lets you add info and keywording as well.

You should SERIOUSLY install SP2. XPSP1 is so old now it's unsupported by M$, and you're vulnerable to a sheetload more virii and spyware attacks!

Take it and be happy that you got published. You have nothing to gain but not putting your photos foward but you may gain if you do get them published and you name next to the pic.

However a Car Mag with no budget ? dosnt seem right.

Why were you there in the first place pleaseure or business, who contact who about the photos you to them or them to you?

Black and white or throwing the baby out with the bath water.

2 boys woke up at xmas to a pile of hourse dung out side. The first boy said great a pile of horse dung the second boy smiles and said cool there must be a horse here somewhere.

So I stand by what I said the first tim. Sit on the photos and you get nothing. Give them away for free and your name gets out there and you dont know what doors will open. Ask wazza re his work for car mags.

i get what your saying.. The people i was shooting for have photos.. they provided me hotel food etc... they are more than welcome to these pics.. other people can who make money by advertising on website to people who come to the website to see these pics - they can pay for them.. without the shots no one comes to their site .. then the advertiser go else where too..

OK, here's my http://tph1.orcon.net.nz/gif/2cents.gif

I would let them have low res images. Very low res images, about 600 wide and have a credit. Gets your name out there. I would also write a 500 word article about the weekend and email proper performance car magazines. The sort you can buy off the shelf in a newsagents. I would email magazines in NZ, Aus, Japan, UK and the US. Maybe 15 magazines. If one pays you great, if two pay brilliant etc if none pay, nothing ventured but your name is out there. If you get published you can get a media pass on your own right :D .

I like that idea.... and they are my media passes ..... The issue i would have is that the low res shots would look poor and reflect badly on what i can do.. but with a link to the website with better shots, would change that..... :D

The reason for the low res would be only to stop the right clickers. Maybe...medium res then ;) and the link.

Hi Guys. Man that's a tough decision Chris. You could offer them 1 or 2 high res images & the rest low res. A tell them that you would like to be considered for upcoming shoots.

My image in the dpchallenge competition isn't going as well as I wanted.
I had 8 images in my short list to choose from & I think I chose the wrong one. I would have asked for advice here, but we are meant to remain anonomyous so I didn't as I would have had to post in G&N and I know a lot of members there are also here.

i like the lay out..

you may want to change the page titles

in source code they read this...

<!-- CHANGE THE NEXT THREE LINES -->
<title>Photography Website Template</title>
<META name="Description" content="Place your website description in this area. This is read by some search engines.">
<META name="KeyWords" content="add, your, keywords and phrases in this area, separated, by, commas, this, is read by only a, few search, engines">
<!-- CHANGE THE ABOVE THREE LINES -->

the bit with Photography Website Template - should read something else.. (its the title on the tabs).

also add a few key words to the pages... it all helps with search engines etc..

I think you should make sure your galleries and everything are populated before you make it live.. Its the key part of your site....

Also your About Me :

Perhaps the first paragraph should read: "Welcome to my website. My name is Tony Searle. I am 40 years old, married with 2 daughters."

Just a bit of punctuation correction :) And if possible add a bigger gap between your picture and the text :)
Maybe you could also add something in there about you being based in Auckland, and what type of photography you're interested in.

Otherwise it looks good

Wireless router with usb hub and printer port (that's what I have) and you'll never need a wire again. Or wait a little longer for wireless USB to get established.

Argh, dilemma. Some of my Comet McNaught photos have gotten a lot of attention and I've had a few enquiries from people who would like to buy prints. How on earth do I work out what to charge? I'm certainly no pro, but the shots are pretty tidy, and are of a once(ish) in a lifetime event. Anyone got any suggestions of what this sort of thing could go for in the local market, and what sort of print options I should offer people? Or even how I actually go about doing the sale - several of these enquiries have come from overseas.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o269/jasestu/POTN/McNaught2_0005_filtered_g_rs_2.jpg

I even need to work on my PP skills, I'm sure the pics would polish up even better if I knew what I was doing on that front...

Oh well, any thoughts are appreciated, thanks,
Jason.

I'm not weka.
Firstly why would you use F16 at iso 400. You must be really fighting for a good depth of field.
The answer of course depends on the power of your lights. I don't think I have shot at F16, but I did a shoot on Friday with F13. It was a lowkey so the light was also pretty low. I had the lights anout 1 M from the subject.
If you can move your lights closer to your subject you have a HUGE range of light strenghts. There is a rule called the inverse square law. This sais Double the distance = 1/4 the light. So in the other direction , 1/2 the distance = 4X the light. Getting the lights close will give you more light than a powerfull flash system.
I personally don't use a flash meter as I can't afford one at the moment. Using your histogram & a few tweaks of your lights & aperture you can get pretty good results.

Hi Jason. Have a look at DPC Prints (http://www.dpcprints.com). These are photos available as prints from photographers on DP challenge. The prices vary depending on the image size.
Remember if you do prints, you need to charge for the printing and the postage.
I have no Idea of prices, have the same problem myself at the moment. Be sure to let us know what you decide. Remember you have a very good and unique image that other people want. Use that.

Thanks Peter. Yes f16 for a good depth of field. Yes it depends on the power of your ligths, thats why I asked 'Weka' because I was curious to see what performance he gets from his lights cause they seem a good price. Generally 150w/s lights wouldn't perform well at f16 (exp with a softbox), hence the iso 400 and the distance question (double distance, 1/4 light), however, some brands do seem to perform extraordinary well.
But thanks for your feedback anyways...

I sold 2x550ex flashes and 1 St-E2 to get the studio lights. They get very warm and have no fan but the are 90% relable. 75w modeling light that is not variable.

I hope there are a lot of people eating a big slice of humble pie. Those that stated Hammond shouldn't be in a dragster and trying to break the speed record. He isn't competent etc. It was a tyre blow out. Even the best driver couldn't handle that.

Spent a frustrating 3 hours trying to upload photos to a stock site last night. Kept me up till 1, & this morning I get the message that many of the uploaded images are corrupt.

I would realy recommend saving your money and getting something a little better than these. If you buy cheap you'll buy twice. (Sorry Tony)
What do you want to use them for? If you want to photograph people, then start with 1 light. Get a good one with adjustable levels & importantly an adjustable moddeling light. Preferabls a bright moddeling light. I would say a minimum of between 200-400 WS.
Get a brand where you can easily get light modifyers, otherwise you are going to have to throw out your lights at some stage to get compatible ones or pay a premium proce for special modifyers, or have to start modifying them yourself.

For portrait & learning 1 light and a couple of reflectors is all you need.
My Session on Friday was shot with 1 light, and in the DPChallenge competition I am right up with the winners at the moment.

Why did they not settle? Did they give a reason?

From memory most real estate contracts have a clause in them that means that they have to pay penalty interest if they do not settle an the agreed date. It is usually a pretty high interest rate too. It would be worth checking your contract for this, and talking to your solicitor about it. Might help pay that second mortgage.

no worries dude.. there are 5 other events this year... that these boys are running.. I would like to cover them all so if i can get enough money to cover expenses for each event then i am all happy..

I am asking for $15 a shot for the first 5 then $10 each there after. (thats the ones they want to use)

need about $200 - $300 each event to cover costs..

Don't think they have one yet, so far Chris, Warren, Kirst and Simon have managed to make some contacts, and do some very good photography for them though.

I can't believe I called drifting a sport earlier :o

erm nope.. the south island champs want a photog to cover them full time.. so i am putting my hand up for that.

the D1NZ boys need to get a more complete coverage of the events .. they have sponsors - sponsors want exposer.. etc.. more exposer by photogs the better the sponsors are.. The glossy mags want pics - papers want pics - sponsors want pics - and teenage boys want posters.

They are now in there fifth year so the time is now... its a big market..

$15 a shot?

What's that? A digital file or an actual print?

You should be marking up your rates about 4-5 times cost price.

Mags will only pay $15-30 per shot however, and most the time, will have it covered, especially D1NZ.

For posters etc, a single shot realistically should be $100-500 depending on the branch, and number of copies etc.

As for D1NZ head photog, they once called me that, and kept asking me to cover this and that, such as D2NZ, and have often referred my own images into publication around the place, however towards the end of the year, I kept declining, as was too busy, so Simon managed to get the contacts. I bet they'll be favouring him this year for always willing to do it. :)
They still have my photo link on left side of page, and website link and image on the right side, again, what they said because mid year I was their "official", even though there's several unpaid hobbyists all snapping away.

Hi All

Have the results of my first time on track as a 'media' photographer at Manfeild on the weekend up on www.tkrfan.com now :) I haven't posted any pics in the motorsport forum as I am too knackered lol.

Hope you get your house woes sorted Tony :(

Great to see you getting some sales from the drifting Chris - well done :D

$15 was just a low res digi file.. anything else is priced on request...
anything like promo work will be charged at a much higher rate. As for the D1 boys they have 8 free low res shots (hotel room etc) and i know they want more for promo work and mags etc.. I was the only person taking pics (except for the first practise session where there 3 track photogs)

Hey anything i make is only going back into the camera anyways. (i need that longer lens and will cover travel to other events)

I hope the back up works out.
And make sure you collect the interest, at the very least it will help off set the extra cost :)

So, when do you want us to come around and start knocking holes in the studio walls?
