Yesterday I downloaded photoshop elements 4.0 and my computer froze..I removed it, turned off the computer and then reloaded with the same result. today i downloaded from Pixmatic Rawshooter elements and same thing happened. I disable Norton thinking that was the problem....I have windows xp professional...not sure what is going to work or what to do. I am a newbie and just started using my 20d slr. I have many years of experience in photography but very little using photo editing.
I downloaded the cd that came with the camera, photoshop elements 2.0 but i don't think this will be the best for me. There is also the Canon photo editing software that came with the camera also. any advice??

You could try a registry cleaner perhaps... I don't have a link but google it and look for it on the microsoft site. It's free. Other than reboot/uninstall/reinstall nothing else comes to mind.

Welcome to POTN as well.
Rawshooter is worth the hassle in my opinion.

Thank you.
I have unistalled again. Disabled all vnirus/norton/spyware products, reboot, and reinstalled again AND still will not working! I am going crazy...I could buy a version of Rawshooter, but wanted to try the free version first.

Are you getting any error message? Is it feezing during the install?

You probably need to do a System Restore to a Restore Point that is prior to the point where you got snarled up with the download.
Start-> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.
The System Restore feature will show you on a calendar those dates for which there is a restore point available. Pick the nearest one prior to when you had the first problems.
Take two Tylenol and call me in the morning!

I am not getting an error message. Photoshop froze during install and Rawshooter seems to download just fine until I try to open it up and nothing at all happens, however, if I right click on it I can view properties...there is also a file for install which I have gone through a a gazillion times and removed and rebooted.
Does this ring any bells with you?

oh I wanted to add also, that I have done a system restall. Never had done that before...but pretty easy when you are forced to do it. I had to do it because my computer didn't work after the install problems with photoshop. however, I haven't done it since I tried rawshooter...

I hope you mean System Restore - not "system restall"!
I also hope you did not have to do a complete system re-install.
If I were you , I would go back to the same System Restore point that you used before, and re-install both Photoshop and do another download and install of RAWShooter.
Why?
Because operating system problems do not get better with time - they only get worse!
