First Post, Carolina Mountain Stream

Greetings Everyone, Thanks Alan for the help that you gave on another post concerning how to get photos ready for this site. I created several pics hoping to post previously, all with too large of a file size. I have got it now though the conversion process removed some of the detail from my pics; I assume everyone who sees the pictures here understands this. Anyway I am very eager to learn the many techniques involved in processing my pictures with the "photoshop elements 2" both for the web and especially to print. I first discovered this site about a week ago and after viewing the awesome pics, reading the posts and seeing how all of the members interact I couldn't wait to sign up. Anyway here I is with my first post. This picture was taken last Saturday afternoon in a light drizzle with some fog in the Black Mountains of North Carolina of a set of waterfalls that I was fortunate enough to unexpectedly find while hiking through the forest. Photo was taken while standing on a slippery creek rock with one tripod leg in the stream. Some processing was done (but I didn't add all of the green color, it was natural) and I cloned out a small branch that was in the way of one the falls, (the elements 2 cloning tool is a pain). Technically not a great pic but pleasing to the eye. Hope that you like it.

It is a great picture I think. You exposed the water perfectly it looks to me, the lighting it perfect it seems too:)

Weather here was just too miserable to be out in on Saturday. I stayed in and watched some old movie, you got a nice picture. My loss is certainly your gain. That looks like a worthwhile spot to try more shots with varying exposures and depth of field. Happy shooting and perhaps we will meet on the trail one day.

Same here, but a lovely photo indeed. I would love to get up there this spring to get some great shots.

Greetings, Thanks for the compliments and info. This pic is a little dark on my sony monitor but very dark on my emachine monitor. I have already corrected the brightness for the sony but after several comparisons there is no hope for the emachine that I can find. The sony sdm-x93 19" seems to be a good monitor but I am currently looking for a replacement for the emachine. Please send suggestions

Thanks Tim, This picture was taken along at stream flowing down the eastern slope of the Black Mountain Range which is where you will find Mt. Mitchell the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. I can give exact directions upon request. Hope that you get time to come back to WNC again. KC

Oh yea... I know the area quite well... Spent my time out in Sylva/Cullowhee at WCU... And have a place that I visit at least once a year outside Spruce Pine on the Parkway... Did not make it out there this past year though... I can't wait to get back since I have the Rebel XT now... Keep the shots coming from WNC...
