************************************************** ************************************************** *******************

I was thinking of shots of what each person themselves thinks looks like a funny incident , a situation, if possible outdoors ,
on the street or in the parks , or even inside , with or without people or animals in the shot
an unusual and funny 'happening'

leaving it open to anything in that vein but taking the best shot possible of what is happening at the time.
a fast reaction and weighing up the full 'picture' (background etc) may be needed in some situations
everyday in our lives things happen which are so unexpected and make it all (living) especially worthwhile
brings us 'down to earth' while we laugh at our own and human frailty in general in certain situations

not laughing at anyone
but with them

laughing at ourselves mostly as things can go so wrong , it keeps us humble
but how to capture our worse moments ?
we've all been there but it's never on record
it's another's situation we sometimes see with which we may identify the funny side and sometimes can actually get a shot of
the old saying 'laughter is the best medicine' for all our ills can be true

with many thanks
and good luck

looking forward to seeing all your shots ~~~

if I have left anything out as regards the rules etc
please let me know. I would appreciate it

A favorite of mine from a few years ago. Unfortunately, it was not shot with a G-series camera:o . (My G3 would have done a better job!) So I'll have to skip this week's competion. I apologize for posting a non-competitive image!

I liked very much the shots of rpolitsr and Don.

Maureen, just a question... what was really happening at that time??? :D

MAS

Congratulations to winners and others too! The winners were also my favorites.

Not so many pictures this time, maybe subject was a bit difficult. I went through my old G2 photos and took even a couple new ones, and when already having made my choice, I found that picture of an old statue, taken on the island of Kos, in Greece, near the coast of Turkey :D

That headless statue is leaning towards a wall (I think), but it looks anyway like standing the forehead hidden in a hole in the wall, like kids playing hide-and-seek. So that's where I then created the name  - I Hope you liked it.

Markku

P.S. I also like to hear Maureen's explanation, what was really happening there... ;)

I thought your statue looked like he was banging his head off the wall
I never thought it was headless

there were a lot of pictures with slanted lines and ends needing a bit of cropping but as it was a fun and humour post this time I didn't really wish to say anything about any as it would have to be more then one

I'll leave it to all to judge for themselves and just enjoy the posts for now,
hope thats ok

Uh, yeah... she was really getting married!!!!! I didn't have to make anything up for that shot. (it was my niece).

What a surprise and thank you very much, Marie. Congrats to Don and rpolitsr.... I am honored to be included with you two.

Now the hardest job.... hosting the next challenge. It will be my first so I will try to go gentle on you all. :):)

Congratulations to Maureen, Don, and rpolitsr on your humorous photos which truly did get a laugh out of me. I was quite impressed how many people successfully used their titles to enhance the humor aspect of their photo. Great topic and wonderfully judged, Marie. Shooting for this challenge was a lot of fun.;)

In Japan
'We love patchy'
:)
ovely quick catch of a (patch) beautiful group of children having fun
I presume the patchy means the 'bandage' on the girl's forehead.
did she have an acccident ?

Just a quick clarification...that's no bandage rather a fever patch. In Japan and I presume other Asian countries as well, people slap on one of these patches when they have a fever and it simply helps keep the person cool. I've always thought they looked rather silly, hence the photo.

RAW, who's the adorable little girl in the dust pan? She's absolutely precious.

Congratulations Maureen Souza and Don Ellis, it is an honor to be placed near you.

Thank you marie for choosing my picture within the top three and for your comments.

Thanks friends for your words and mainly for the pictures and the titles!. I enjoyed every picture posted :-P

Neither G nor Pro1 shot, wrong sized, commented picture!

I think that a frequent high quality contestant got the right to break almost all the rules to show us his wonderful capture. Thank you MegaTrixel :p

When I was young, I thought winning was the best you could do -- but that was before the Speed Challenges. Now I know that second place is better. :)

Congratulations to Maureeen Souza (when I saw her photo, I figured the rest of us could go home) and rpolitsr (hard to beat animals for touching humour). And a huge thanks to Marie for her hosting, judging and commenting.

As ma-s noted, there weren't so many photos and I think that's because humour is often spontaneous and of the moment, making it difficult to capture (you're too busy laughing). And as in Japan mentioned, it often took a title to bring the smile into focus. (I also considered "National Geographic Special: How Animals Navigate" but Leela assured me that wasn't worth even a smirk.)

Thanks to everyone for your kind words. Now I have to go find something fresh, besides Leela's mouth.

Cheers,

Don

You are far too kind. When I saw the challenge, I knew exactly what photo I was submitting as this situation really happened.:D

Now I have to go find something fresh, besides Leela's mouth.

You never know, that might work, Don.

Very very nice topic for a challenge and every photo posted made me laugh especially when combined with the title...great job everyone!

Congratulations to Maureen, very nice capture and being a true story makes it even funnier. Rpolister your photo caught my eye the first moment I saw it, the cat just blends in, exellent! and Don, you must've been fast to react on that shot, I just love it, one question was it manualy focused or auto.

I loved all the entries, Markkus made me laugh the most, also the nude photo :D ...great shots and titles everyone.

In Japan...the girls name is Fiona. She used to live in the building where I work as a doorman. As I was cleaning the sidewalk she came down with her mother and wanted to help me :) , I gave her the broom and asked her mother if I could take a photo of her cleaning, luckily she agreed. The funny thing is, in this photo she was trying to get in the dust pan...:D , it looks like she is sweeping herself in...:D . Just one of those days when you are happy you have your camera with you.

Thank you Marie for being such a great judge...

Always auto-focus... except for maybe two times in a thousand shots. Thanks for your comments... sometimes you get lucky.

Congratulations to Maureen, Don, and rpolitsr for placing! Great choices marie, job well done. Maureen, kudos for an excellent shot - these emotions are fleeting and are gone in a nanosecond, so you did well in capturing the moment. Cats are always a source of aloof hiliarity, so it lends well to the theme, and both Don and Rpolitsr captured it well. I love cats, particularly their behaviour, too bad I'm allergic to them.

Excellent entries, all - on to the next challenge!

very many thanks to everyone for all the nice things said
your pictures are lovely.
I am still enjoying them and wanted to say so much about all of them,

and thank you for the explanation about the 'patch' In Japan
a patch like it would be very handy whenever we are overheating:lol:
I liked the added touch of the bicycle in your picture

I didn't properly thank-you, Marie, for the great challenge and the time you took to judge and comment on everyone's photo. (Guess I was in a state of shock :)) I am so glad I joined this group....you have all been so very nice (Yes, even you, Don;) )and thanks for putting up with me and my occasional outbursts. Most of all, I feel happy that my Pro 1 has come out of it's case and gets a little work out once a week.

Thank you for your response Don. I, myself most of the time use auto too, but I was wondering maybe you are using a set and forget setting...

Regards,
Hi Artan... I never used a set until I bought a Pro 1... and now I only use it for the 500D Macro Lens so I don't have to go down into the menus and select that particular lens. Because it's Macro, I also set it to Av so I can control the depth-of-field.

I am one lazy photographer -- I tend to let the camera do as much of the work as possible. Although I am finding that I have more control over depth-of-field with the Pro 1 than I ever did with the G1 and G2. Sensor size, I believe.

Cheers,

Don
