This band, Interrogation, is a local band that my friends are in. They played a show at a small space (very small) here in Dc and I just happen to have my camera there (ok so I didn't happen to have it but brought it purposefully like any good member of POTN :) )

No they aren't the quality that others have but they aren't too bad for a first time and without the fast glass.

I really like the last one, I cant quite tell if its just a long exposure, multiple exposures, or a long exposure with flash bursts (perhaps the stage lighting is throwing me, none to familiar with it)

Great shots!

Other than the first I really like them, all for different reasons. Did you do the last with stroboscopic flash?

Yep love #2, #3 and #4......the last one is special, one of those artistic blur shots that despite the blur, you know exactly what's going on. A lot of these kinds of shots don't work, but this is very cool.

Wow, glad everyone liked them (well aside from #1 that is)

To answer the big question:
The only PP work on the last image was a little brightness/contrast adjustment and USM. I used a long exposure on the last image. The strobe effect was created thanks tot the drummer, more specifically the drum. They had placed a strobe light inside the drum he was pounding on. He was sitting there beating away with the song while the strobe was going off. I knew If I used a flash I would destroy the visual created by his strobe. This was the closest I could think of recreating the experience of watching him drum for a sdtatic image.

I can understand why people aren't as keen on the first image. I suppose it really isn't a good image for performance but I like it on an abstract level. To each his own eh? :)

I guess I'm with the minority here: I like the first one (and I like the last one, no to minority there). On the first one, I would crop out the microphone stand, and maybe adjust levels a bit to get a bit more contrast.

So now I'm wondering about putting a strobe (my 580EX) under/in a drum and using a stroboscopic effect similar to this ... if I put the camera on a tripod and set a long exposure using manual and then fire off the strobe ... hmmm, something to look into, although I'd never be allowed to do this at the casino. Never-the-less, it is a clever idea for a band/drummer! :-) I, of course, would never have thought to capture it, sigh.

I would have liked the first image it it wasn't so cut off. It could be a photo of almost anything. Can't really tell what it is of.

How do you know you'd "never" be allowed? Wouldn't hurt to ask a roadie for one of the bands. They might let you. Show them the excellent shot posted here.
