G1 LCD

I've had my G1 since November.

It seems like I've messed up whatever coating (anti-glare?) that might have been on the LCD. I've managed to smear it by wiping it off with my (sweaty or greasy) fingers too many times. Now it really is not as clear as when new.

From the above admission it should be obvious that I'm not a trained photographer!


Does anyone know of a method of cleaning the LCD or getting some kind of anti-glare coating back onto it? I presume this will be more important as the summer approaches.

I have not yet resorted to cleaning the LCD with "lens-clean" that I use for my plastic eyeglasses.

Suggestions welcome.

Dunno about if there is really any anti-glare coating on the LCD, but generally you shouldn't use anything very strong on the panels; Fairy will do, use similar mixture as washing dishes (1:1000 or so).

I use (Pentax) microfibre cloths which you can buy from any optician or camera shop.

Try using some scotch tape...stick it on the LCD panel, then peel it off. Works great for me, gets rid of specks, fingerprints, smudges, pretty much everything.

I've heard of using scotch tape before.....but I'm reluctant to try this.....is there a chance it will remove the anti-reflective coating?

Isn't there a "stick-on & remove" film made expressly for LCD screens? I've heard about it but never seen it for sale.

Is anyone else using the scotch tape method?

Really, scotch tape works fine...I've used it a lot, not only on the G1 but on my Sony DV camcorder, which I've had a lot longer. If you're worried, though, try the microfiber cloth that Pekka recommended. They work very well too, and if you store them in a ziplock bag so they don't get contaminated with particles, they won't scratch your LCD's surface.
