View Full Version : SD 300 RED EYE ISSUES

HELLO, I HAVE MAJOR ISSUES WITH RED EYE WITH MY SD 300. I'VE READ THE MANUAL A NUMBER OF TIMES AND HAVE A FAIRLY GOOD IDEA OF MOST OF THE FEATURES. I PREFER TO TAKE SHOT IN MANUAL MODE, BUT NO MATTER IF I CHANGE TO PROTRAIT MODEL OR STAY IN MANUAL MODE, I GET MAJOR RED EYE. IT THERE ANYWAY TO AVOID RED EYE?
ALSO, SHD I MAYBE HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN UNTIL I HEAR THE FOCUS BEEP, OR PRESS DOWN QUICKLY? MAYBE THIS IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM?

Welcome to POTN. Please turn off your caps, it is considered yelling.
There is a red eye reduction mode on your camera's flash mode but most all flashes that are close to the lens produce red eye. It will be necessary to remove red eye in post processing.

I also found that the redeye reduction has not effect really on photos taken with the sd300.

As Skip Souza said.... you aren't going to be able to eliminate red eye. It is a red eye REDUCTION mode, not elimination. You will need to edit the images to remove the red eye. All compact cameras that have a flash close to the lens will have red eye. Be sure to have the subjects look directly at the camera when you take a picture.
To take a pic press the shutter button half way down to let the camera meter and focus. You will see the green focus boxes come up and you will hear a beep. Then press the shutter the rest of the way down. Don't just press it all the way down, as the camera won't meter or focus.
