Alright, so I didn't know where to really put this, since it's not Canon. However, I'm considering getting one of these as a backup/travel/P&S camera. Looks awesome, but I'm wondering if anyone's actually owned one or used one. Doesn't seem like you could really go wrong with a Leica. Opinions?
See the camera I'm talking about here (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=417106&is=USA&addedTroughType=search#Physical)

You might want to have a look at the panasonic LC1 which is almost the same camera

By the way. leica are soon to bring out a digital version of their classic M series Rangfinder http://www.lfi-online.de/ceemes/show.php?lfi_topstory1_english

This kind of camera won't suit everyone, particularly the point and shoot oriented machine gun to bigger buffer and fingers crossed types, it would suit me very nicely as a carry around:

I'd consider a second hand Leica rather than a Panasonic and be happy to wait for the right one.

The leica Rangefinder is an iconic camera, most of the greats used one to capture the images we all love. They only bring out a new one once a generation, but the body designs changes little. It's such a beautifully built camera and design. Why guild a Lilly?
I was looking at the latest the M7 (film), but i might be interested in the new digital M.

From what i could find on the new M
A dedicated M body, not a clip-on digital back
10.5 MPixel
a 1.33x crop factor
an R9 metal shutter with 1/8000th top speed
built-in motor to cock shutter
$US 5k price

Well if the "Digilux 2" and the "D-LUX2" are the same camera, then I'm definitely far from impressed for 800 bucks. Standard noisy P&S shots, plastic body, EVF, etc. However, the colors were quite beautiful, and when you get the slim chance to produce bokeh with it, it looks quite creamy. Perfect, actually. However, it just doesn't seem to perform as a Leica should. Far from that legendary standard. A big NEVERMIND to the D-LUX2.

I think the new M will be the answer to many a prayer Ronald. But of course with the body and lenses its a hole different ball game to the Digilux.
If this camera turns out to be a beauty, which im hoping it does. Then i'd be happy to have one as my main camera

Yeah, but there's just no chance on me spending $5k on a camera. There's just too much glass to be had.

If you wanted to go film the M7 is about half that. The lenses are of course expensive, but we all know why.

Nope, unfortunately no film for me. I'm too cheap, too impatient, and too "clicky" (if that's a word).

That'd be a waste of 800 bucks. It will never hold its value.
Would you consider film for travel photography?

Leica seems to be going in the wrong direction again. I am an avid Leica user and collector.....for well over 40 years. I think that Leica should invest into developing digital film for the M series....this is the series that brings in the money for them......
all they need is a film cassette that has a card attached to it......slip in the film chamber and then has a usb port attached.....then, they would get back all the shooters that they lost to digital.....I have most of the Leica digital cameras in my collection.. and they all stink...always did...but with digital film......man I'd be back on my M in a minute....untill then...Canon is the forerunner.....Leica keeps making and designing cameras that resemble the M series but let down the shooter with everything but image quality......M people are manual shooters...they like to think and not let the camera make decisions....just record.....sooooooo, wake up Leica........think......until then...it's the 5D and L glass....don
