View Full Version : G5 with optional lenses from G1

I've just unpacked my new G5. When studying the manual, there is a statement "The wide converter WC-DC58 and the tele-converter TC-DC58 for the PowerShot G1/G2 are not recommended since shooting problems may occur".

I have these optional lenses from my G1. Does anyone know what "shooting problems" the manual is referring to? Should this be a concern? Do I need to replace them with the WC-DC58N and TC-DC58N?

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Margie,

I too have just got my new G5, having upgraded from the G2 (and the G1 prior to that).

I too have the WC-DC58 and the TC-DC58 from my G2 days and was reluctant to sell them and buy the 'N' varieties as the only difference between the old and new converters is 28-210mm equivalent on the old and 24-245 on the new 'N' ones. So I didn't and they work perfectly well on the G5!

I bought the aluminium adapter rom www.lensmateonline.com, because it was black and matched both the G5 and the lenses and because it's made from aluminium and not plastic. Put my 420EX flash on the G5 and the lenses and it's a gorgeous tool for any serious photographer.

So no, no concerns, no shooting problems - enjoy your new camera!
