Started badly...my tripod, which had broken a few weeks ago, then seemed to miraculously heal itself, broke again for good just before the show started.

Set up using my little ballpod tripod sitting on top of a small coldpak bag. :-) Camera was about 1 1/2 feet off the ground, and I sat next to it in a beach chair looking down at the LCD swiveled out and up so I could see what was being captured. Definitely not a pro setup, but w/out the swivel LCD all would have been lost...bless that feature!

Got a few good shots in spite of the bad setup. URL below. I'm particulary proud of the last one on the page - it reminds me of a set of Chinese/Japanese characters flowing down from the sky....

I like that last one a lot too. It's pretty interesting to see the different shapes the fireworks make with various shutter speeds.

Here are some of mine:

I stuck with f8.0 for my shots, and started with a shutter of 6-8s... but the city lights were killing the contrast of the fireworks so I dropped down to the 3s range. I was really kicking myself for not buying a 2x telephoto tonight.. oh well. (Stuck back away to avoid fighting crowds).

There are also a few of my first attempts at photographing flowers that I attempted while home for the holidays (mothers always have such great gardens, eh?). I never really had a ton of macro interest before, but now I think I might pick up some macro lenses with my next paycheck... we'll see.

Looks like we all had some type of problem. LOL Here's mine for the offering.

The last picture's title pretty much tell the story. Could have kick myself after see I had a prime spot and what a different one would have made. Been in photography as a hobby for over 20 yrs now. But "Oh-No" anyone in this hobby for that long surely can hand-hold a camera steady for a least a full sec right? Would blame it on drinking, but a don't even drink!

Excellent - you also got an asian character shot, although w/color. :-)

Really like the 4th and last fireworks shots.

True.

Fell asleep in the car while coming back from a camping trip today, and paying the price now. For me, any daytime nap results in late night wide-eyes. A curse I must live with... :-)

other than long shutter speed, I think i'm just happy none of my were blured to hell, or overexposed, or had like bright backdrop.

I like very the dark background you`ve got.
a few questions like: which was the ISO setting, 50, 100, 200,400?
exposure time? and diafragm?

thanks,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,
Not sure if ya was directing your question to me but I'll answer anyways :)
I had ISO set at 50, shutter speed was 4 seconds and aperture 8.
I just wish they would of turned out that dang light... I edited the light out on a different pic and it looks a lot better.

These are all great shots! I just got my G3 on Thursday, so I figured the Fourth would be a nice little test drive...

You can check out my pics at http://www.pbase.com/bcstanford if you so desire. There are also some pics of the hydroplane races they had at the same place over the weekend.

Let me know what you think!
