I ordered a 16x20 picture to give to a friend for his birthday. What can I do to make it better? Should I buy a frame? Any advice on what kind? Where should I get it? I have no idea yet.

My personal opinion (and what I do) is have my pictures framed when I give them as gifts. It seems to me it really gives the gift a bit of class and the gift is then ready to use on a desk or wall. The quality of the frame may vary (stock versus custom) depending on to whom I am giving it but it is always framed.
Good luck,
Dennis

yes, definately buy a frame and make sure it's matted. As to what style that's up to you. My rule of thumb is to make sure that the photo is the first thing you see and not the frame. I'm sure your friend will love whatever you decide on..... Sari.
ps.. would like to see the photo you chose. just a thought.

I have never bought a frame before and have no idea where to go. Should I just try a local Walmart? I don't know if anyone has frames that big. Should I look for one that specifically says 16x20? Are there any specialty stores out there?
What does it mean to have it matted?
The picture is a group picture from our church. http://x33.xanga.com/1ea811fb405a831811065/w22143537.jpg

you can definately try a walmart. Not sure if you'll find one there though, a specialty store for the size you want would be a good idea. Matting is the border between the frame and the photo. in my experience it makes a huge difference in the presentation, a lot of ready made frames will come with matting, you just buy one that says, the size of the frame with matt for 16x20 print. Hope this helps. Sari.

You can usually go to most any department store -- Target or Walmart are examples. Office supply stores like Staples and Officemax will have some frames. I have also seen nice frames at places like Pottery Barn and Ikea (although these are metric sizes). "Art" stores will have them but they are generally more expensize.
Good luck.
