Here is our miniture Daschung doing what he loves to do when we dump the dog food into it's storage bin. We go through about 40 pounds every two weeks, and I always leave a few kibble in the bag and throw it down on the kitchen floor for him to clean out. In this case I saved it and threw it down when I had my background and lights set up so I could get some good pictures. :D

a little however the gulf stream there keeps the water a few degrees higher.. - the sea here has this big ice cube south and a northernly current. so its cold... however new years is warmer, being summer time.. Xmas with sunnies and 30 c is not quite right. esp when the shopping centers still play frosty the snowman and other Xmas classics.. like white Xmas.. ;) i do have a fibreglass snowman i got from Sainsbury's (when i was last in england) that sits on my lawn at christmas. The sphear is a large stainless steel ball. They are used in gardens and in other places to give a mirrored effect. I've used it a few times to take pictures with for the effect it has on images. I was finishing up shooting Dyna and saw it sitting on the couch so put it on the floor to see what she would do. She started play bowing and jumping back when the image moved and she'd roll it and then bounce back and bow at it. I didn't have my lights set up to get a good shot of it and her but I grabbed these to see how they turned out. :D

Yes, we've got two of those as well! (do they only come in pairs?)

Lovely pic

(Note to self - dont go round Mike's house for dinner!)

Actually, I had 4 there at first but I didn't have my light set up right and I had to crawl back out of the dishwasher to fix it. :D

Don't worry, the dishes were run through a second time after this session. Actually, they were all clean except for the couple I smeared dog food on. The idea came because we are always shooing the dogs away when we load the dish washer. Everytime I did, I kept thinking there must be a picture in this... the hard part was getting the angle I wanted, which was from inside the dish washer. And of course I had to wait till my wife was not around for awhile. She still hasn't seen the pictures. :D

Photodawg... that is a sample of a number of utinsels that our first litter of puppies 9 some years ago, used to cut teeth on. As they grew we had to move things further and further back from the edge of the counter because of their developing boarding house reach. At least until they learned that shopping the counters was not allowed. :D

Thanks for the comments guys. CameraGirl, I'll put a warning up when I post my refridgerator shot. ;)

Ah, he's cute! Maybe darken the "bright" spots on the grass caused by the sun, as they distract a little, other than that, good job.

Our dog breed is always getting mistaken for small black bears. If you ever see them from a distance as they walk away from you, you will know why. Even up close people will do a double look sometimes. :D

We were visiting a newly opened Tillimook Forest Interpretive Center this spring and I noticed that off in the corner was probably one of the most recognized bears in the world... at least for those of us of the baby boomer age. So I just had to get a shot of Frank and Smokey together. If I had only had a hat and shovel...

This is Sampson. It's a bit darker than I like, but heck close enough

I didn't notice till afterwords that the backdrop bowed in at the bottom. I'm pretty sure it was from my 5yr old nephew playing around on it. Kids, eh?

a friend who owns a pub in a busy town had his two dogs in a shed in a big yard yesterday
and while the larger dog could see over the wooden door half open, the smaller dog kept hopping up and down trying to see me.

I wouldn't have seen him at all ,only for him hopping up

I know I shouldn't comment, but this dog needs to see a vet! - just look at the claws, they are in bad need of attention, and if his claws are like this, then you can bet that the rest isn't much cared for either. This is what comes of "keeping him in a shed". Sorry, but it's the way I feel.

I thought the very same when I put the picture up here.
I had put that shot on afterwards after the first two pictures as I saw it among a few I had taken of the dog .
saw the sad face and 'tears' dried in the eye ducts and the nose like as though rubbing in dirt in the shed too much.
but dogs do things, even after a bath and can look filty in a few minutes

however, I was really shocked when I saw the paws like that. and was very concerned also .
it was lucky that the dog put the paws up there on the half door

that was the very first I saw the nails here after I posted the picture

( its thanks to pictures we can see a lot more detail with some things going on in life)

I rang the pub the next day and the daughter came to the phone
she said her dad was away . that she didn't know anything about the dog's problem.

I had said a 'friend' owns the dog but I just know them in passing
they are friends like that when I drop into their yard to say hello to the 'pets' for a second or two ,when passing
sometimes the owner is there, sometimes not.

otherwise I don't know anything regards how and why the dog.

I hate seeing a dog in a shed but sometimes owners have a reason and this pub yard leads onto a busy street
but there no excuse for neglect (like the nails)

the daughter told me on the phone that maybe there is something wrong with a nerve in the dog's foot,
or something, and he could not get the nails cut yet

anyway,
its all I could do for now
maybe its all for the best this happened , as without the pictures I wouldn't have known (or any of us)
and if I had not posted the pictures I would never have seen them properly enough to notice the nails , as I was not printing any

you will find that the dog will be looked after and hopefully. as soon as possible.

with many thanks for your concern
I was very worried too

Firstly, thank you so much for following this up. I really was only concerned, as I'm sure you are, for this dogs welfare. Please be assured that I am not aiming any of these comments at you - as I really shouldn't be using our forum to air my views (at least not on dog care!)

....the daughter told me on the phone that maybe there is something wrong with a nerve in the dog's foot,
or something, and he could not get the nails cut yet

Hmmm... I don't believe a word of it. These claws haven't been trimmed for months. Some breeds do indead have a tendancy for very dark claws, so it can be difficult (but not impossible) to trim their claws without inducing (very minor) bleeding if they are trimmed too short - as the blood supply in the claw isn't visible. That doesn't prevent them, though, from being trimmed "little and often". However, claws get this long for two reasons, 1) The dog is not walked on hard ground enough, or does not have access to it (i.e. kept in a shed). and 2) The owner isn't bothered!

....you will find that the dog will be looked after and hopefully. as soon as possible. with many thanks for your concern

g-day fellow dog people,
I have one favour to ask of you all, that is after reading this post,no right now please go and find your dog and give him or her the biggest hug.

I am (was) the owner of 2 adorable dogs,Peppy(cross stafordshire bull terrier and chihuahua) and Angus(gus)(german shepherd).

Unfortunately yesterday i/we had to get our local vet out to put gus to sleep.
Yesterday was the saddest day in my 33 years of life.

Being a typical shepherd he suffered from very bad back legs,my wife and i decided on monday that the inevetable had to be done.
i am not to sure now that knowing for 5 days that it was going to happen was good or bad !one way we got to spend those few extra days with him,but sleep over the last week has been bad and as i said earlier, yesterday was just heartbreaking.

i knew that i would be upset but ,i can not explain the pain of saying goodbye to such a wonderful mate.

he was 9 odd years old and bought for my wife for a birthday pressie.
i grew up with german shepherds all my life but this one was special,he was quite big for a shepherd and was the best natured dog i or anyone who met him would say.
since having gus my wife and i have had 2 children Jack 7 and Liam 5.as u may know or can imagine kids can be quite hard on or unwillingly harm dogs(like sit on them and pull their ears).
good old Gus would just sit there and take it all ,never was i at all worried with him around kid's,such a gentle giant.

Then about 2 years ago i came home with Peppy,he was going to be abandoned or worse, by his previous owners.he was just a small little puppy who's terrible owner's were sick of him and were going to "get rid of him".
so when i brought him in poor old Gus didnt know what to make of him or did he know what the hell he was, a dog or a rat ?

but over the last 2 or so years they became totally inseperable, wherever Gussy would lay down Peppy would be right there.
They really were the odd couple.
oh well enough of my ranting and raving between tears.
here is a few pic's for you all,oh and again please please please go and give that best m8 of yours a huge hug.

Angus (gus) RIP.

I've had 3 dogs pass away in my 14 years, and it never gets easier. You kind of take them for granted. You can't help but think of them as pets, but once they die you realize they were a friend.

Adam, thanks for posting these, they really made me smile :-) :-)

The first one reminds me of our two Shelties, they are always laying against each other. The second is really sweet - I'm always amazed at how big dogs often allow smaller ones to crawl all over them (until it's feed time!)

#3 looks like they're enjoying the game, and the last one I think you'll treasure for ever. (I have a similar pic of our Rough Collie, who sadly is also no longer with us)

Take care, be strong.

TJ, i live in a town called Woy Woy,this part of the coast get's called the central coast of NSW.
we are roughly 1 hour north of Sydney, lovely spot.
we are close enough for me to work in the middle of Sydney each day ,but far enough to live away from the rat race and enjoy the waterway's and beach and live a much quieter life.
Not to sure how far we are from Parkes,i have been there though,i remember the huge radio telescope they have out there.
