Hi,

anyone going or been to a Focus on Imaging event, I am thinking of taking a look this year at the Birmingham (UK) event in Feb 2006. It looks like a good chance to see lots of the photographic kit out there and maybe even make some contacts.

If you dont know what I am refering to check out: http://www.focus-on-imaging.co.uk/regframe.html

Cheers
Andyh

I've been every year, & will probably be there on the Sunday.
The big let-down this year is Canon pulling out - theirs has always been the biggest stand.
I think a key problem for every manufacturer this time is the clash with PMA. Previously Focus has been a couple of weeks after PMA.

thats a real shame, I guess others will have the 5D extra but would of been nice to see where Canon thought things are going...

Looks like family commitments are going to stop me attending after all :(

Oh well, maybe next year

I have decided agains it this year. I enjoyed the last two but this time I feel there just isn't enough to draw me over.

I ventured down the M42 today for the second year running but i must say how dissapointed i was.
No canon...boo hoo. But the most annoying thing was loads of big blokes walking round with big cameras around their necks. They were everywhere and really getting it the way. I mean what is there to photograph in there? I think they were all trying for the 'bling factor'.

I managed to pick up 6 boxes of ilford inkjet paper (my fav) on buy one get one free. And treated myself to a Sekonic flashmate as i intend to do some studio work in the coming weeks.

Other than that i must say i was pretty bored. Adobe did some nice lectures but they were very basic so of limited value to me and the main question i wanted answered was not.

Did manage to feel up a gorgeous macbook pro (which i have on order) which was the highlight of the day.

But we were the first non-trade to see the 30D!

Otherwise, I agree it's getting less relevant/interesting by the year.
Only Noink still push the boat out with an impressive stand. I'd hoped Olympus' return would compensate a little for the loss of Canon and Minolta, but their stand was pretty low-key.

I expected that the new electronic boys on the block (Sony, Panasonic and Samsung) would be high profile . They weren't.

If Focus c*ck up the dates with PMA again in 2007 it could be curtains.

I know what you mean about the big men, with the big camera's. My camera didnt come out till I spotted these beauties.

Adobe's lectures were ok, but again quite basic.

Oh, Kinda glad that I did'nt make it in the end. Sounds like it was not very good. Which is disappionting as I don't know of any others in the UK.
