ok im still little confused on some accessories. im a very ameutor user and ive been looking at the lensmate adaptors with the hoya uv and polirizer. well i think im going to go with the 52mm accessories but need little advice. being 52 or 58mm have any major drawbacks? what about the lenses. do you think i need to have a polirizer lense, uv is a good one to protect the lense and all too. well like i said anydraw backs. if i do go to one or the other would like to like stick with the size. 52mm or 58mm, oh also about the tcon-17 will that fit the 52mm? im thinking of extending the zoom.

I bought the lensmate 58 with the Hoya IR, UV and close-up set. I seem to recall reading that there is less vignetting with the 58mm size stuff.

Hi Luis.
Check this page at Lensmate:
http://www.lensmateonline.com/g3_samples.html
At the top of the page, you'll see where you can click on "buttons" to see examples of how the 52mm and the 58mm adapters will affect the camera's viewfinder, flash and AF emitter beam. The 52mm is less "obtrusive".
I have the 52mm Lensmate and the TCON-17 lens. The lens is 55mm, so I have a 52mm-55mm step ring. Works great, excellent lens.
I also have a UV filter in 52mm. It's a good filter to have.
I'll also be adding a polarizer and a closeup lens.
And don't forget a flash. So far, it looks like the Canon 420EX flash is the one to get for the G3 (based on what I've read from other users).

The 58mm does have the most vignetting, and will obstruct the flash, the emitter beam and the viewfinder a bit more. That, along with the fact that 52mm filters are a bit cheaper to buy, is why I bought the 52mm.

thank you for all the info. i am close to ordering and going to the 52mm way but ive just came across another jam. i am also interest in a teleconvertor. mostly so far people have talked about the tcon-17 being the best yet for our camera comparing it to the canon ones and kenko. now if i go to the 52mm i have to step up to the 55mm using a ring adaptor correct. what would you guys say is better in terms of taking the pictures. going with a 52mm and stepping up or going with the 58 and stepping down?

oh any extra comments on the teleconvertor would be great.

I asked that same question of Peter at www.b-300 where I bought the TCON-17. He felt it wouldn't matter either way, 52mm up to 55mm, or 58mm down to 55mm.
So I bought the 52mm Lensmate, again because the 52mm Lensmate obstructs the camera less than the 58mm does. I'm going to order another one so I can have one attached to the lens, and one for the UV filter.
Easier to switch using the bayonet mount of the camera than to unscrew the UV, and then screw on the lens, and then back, etc.
As for the TCON-17, I've only had a chance to take a few test photos with it, but so far I'm VERY pleased with the results. The photos are sharp and clear.

I also have the TCON-17. Jack has helped me out with that aspect. Although I bought the 58mm and the 52mm adaptor tubes from Lensmate. I have the 58-55 sep-down ring with the teleconverter attached to it and the 52mm with a UV filter.

Jack...did you and Peter talk about wide angle lenses? If so which ones in his opinion would be a good fit with the G3?

Hi dujie.
Haven't looked into a wide angle yet. Probably won't get one for a while.
But when I'm ready to buy, I'll post here for you and let you know the results.
