a bit pricey maybe, but i thought this was a great idea and might be nice when you're travelling light:

If you try it, let us know how it works, a G6/Pro1 might be too heavy for it. Too bad there's not a beer bottle version.

Interesting. Actually, I just bought the Pod, a bean bag mount. Haven't tried it out yet but I think it will be great for those cases where you need a tripod but just don't want the hassle. It was in stock at my local camera store.

Interesting but I doubt it will sell, particularly at that price. It doesn't seem to have a ball head and, even if it does, one would always have to carry a suitable bottle that would have to be full and standing on a flat surface.
Far better to always carry something like this Ultrapod. Very lightweight, will fit in a shirt pocket, is stable on almost any surface, has a ball head, and even has a Velcro strap for attaching to a ski pole or tree branch etc. I've used it for many shots, indoors and out.

teekay: i've seen those online, but they're even smaller than i thought once i see it folded up and w/ the pencil.
I have a mini-tripod from target that works OK, I already broke one, so if this one breaks, i'll go with the ultrapod, thanks!
Yeah, the bottle cap thing is neat, but i'm not sure how useful it'd be... just thought someone might be interested or mighta tried it.

Nice concept, but I would want at least a full 2L bottle to feel relatively comfortable about perching my camera on it, and if I had to carry 2kg of extra weight, I would rather try something like the Ultrapod.

$19.99!
You could make one with a 1/4x20 bolt and the screw cap off a drinks bottle! Now that's a good idea.

Yes, 1/4 x 20 is the thread specification for a standard camera tripod screw.
