I just saw the new Digital SLR Leica R8 (10MP), and its sweet! Its an ad on back to the standard film SLR Leica R8. I hope canon follows with something of the same. Sometimes it nice to shoot in film with the same camera. (and less weight then lugging around two cameras) Would you pay extra to have an add on digital back for your canon film slr or would you rather have a dedicated digtal slr camera?

I plan to buy a Leica back when they are introduced ,(they say in 18 months)..with Leica it will show up when it shows up. The back will sell for over $5500. The only reason I will buy it is so I can use my Leica R lenses. I hope they produce this product. jh

I doubt that Canon will go this route.
They already have three digital bodies that are more than capable and all able to be modified to keep up with advancing sensor size and technology - covering the market spectrum too.
Why pay the equivilent price of a 1D for a back to go on a 1V - these are Pro cameras and Pros will get both anyway if they need them. As for swopping backs in the middle of a shoot - a nightmare on 35mm in the field but OK in the studio perhaps.
The Leica R8/9 are unlikely to be joined by a digital only body anyway and so this is a way of providing Leica users with digital - for use with their superlative lens collection - as a replacement for film , not many will buy to swop from film to digital on the hoof.
Since buying my 10D back in March I haven't loaded a film in my 1nRS, although I do miss the 10 frames/second sometimes (I just altered my shooting style) - could do with a !D with 6m pixel CMOS really.
Which is another problem with a digital back on a 1D would it keep up with the drive speed?
