ID Help Sparrow

Captured this little sparrow along the coast eating the seeds of dormant iceplant. It resembles the rufous crowned sparrow but the lacks the throat stripe. Can any of you help?

Closest I can come up with, at least with my field guides, is a winter plumaged Chipping Sparrow. The Rufous-Crowned also lacks the pale wingbars.
