As a tribute to the nifty fifty, here a few shots I took during a show (all with 20D at ISO 800). The pro had a Noink and used flash... considering the smoke at the podium, I don't think that was a good idea. Haven't seen her photos though.

I certainly like these ... looks like a fun outing. Did they let you guys just stand by the stage and block the view?

Yeah, I was the "official photographer" of the company I work for. The event was our personnel party, and the pro was hired by the organizing bureau.
And, the stage was a square one right in the middle of the hall. We ran around it all the time. Besides that, the show was projected on large screens at various places in the hall.
I guess that's why I could come that close. We (the pro and I) didn't disturb the show. And our company was grateful afterwards and published 20+ photos of the event in our magazine.

Gee, Peter, that's incredible! What company? What magazine (is it in English?) Why such an amazing party?

Uhm... I'm sure you don't know it. It's SD WORX (http://www.sd.be) and yes, apart from our business, we like to party. Festivities like these are planned once in 5 years, however )-; but even then, we all love it.
The magazine is not in English and it's for SD WORX people only (quarterly, about 1200 prints made).
Thanks for the reply! I'm sure our chief editor and organiser of the party will like your comments.

Oh, well, if I'm going to be quoted by name I would have a lot more good things to say ... "great photography!", "truly a valuable experience and comraderie building event", "very well organized and presented" ... you know, stuff like that! So, you are in HR! Well, if you ever need to fly in a professional Live Entertainment photographer for one of these events I am available and expensive. :-)

I really like the third (nice movement in the legs) and the ones with the umbrella, although on the first of those composition could have been better (sorry, lost count there ;))
One some others you've cut off feet which bothers me, end the 4th hone is at least a stop overexposed.
Apart from that: Nice. Looks like fun to shoot!

Actually, I'm in IT but my company does HR...
I'll keep your name in mind if we need a pro for events like this. You stand a good chance when I quote you with what you said above. ;-)
