I purchased a G3 recently (before G5's came out) and it was doing a marvelous job. Extremely sharp, clear pictures. Now, all of a sudden, the focus seems to have a problem. People, still objects, etc aren't as sharp and clear as they used to be. I haven't dropped it or banged it against anything that I can remember.

Anything I can check to see what the problem mght be?

The unsharpness isn't real bad, but enough that I notice it and also when printing. I have a 256 card and always shoot at the finest resolution and max megapixel settings. About 50/50 on automatic and manual settings, and that makes no difference.

It is still under warranty. Is this something Canon would look at for me?

Any suggestions on what to consider are greatly appreciated.

What is your autofocus set to? Continuous or Single?

Also, do you get the same results with manual focus?

Oh nm... I missed your autofocus/manual part.

If your lens is clean, shooting in highest modes, and af / manual give you the same results I don't know where to guide you (other than Canon as you suggest).

There is a couple of things you could check. Press on the "FUNC" button and go to "Photo Effect." See if it is set to "Low Sharpening." Low Sharpening will make it look "less" focused. You can also change the Sharpness in the Custom Photo Effect. Make sure that it is not set to some low sharpness setting. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses.

ISO = Auto
Effect = OFF
BKT = OFF
Flash = 0

Anyone had success in calling the Canon help desk or repair facility to see if they suggest sending it in. Any idea how long they would keep it before sending back? I have a big vacation trip in about 6 weeks and some camera is better than no camera.

Thanks!!!
