Greeting,

Finally, I had a chance to play with the camera. I decided to step outside the house and take a picture of the scenery in front of the house. And this morning, I decided to take some pictures of flowers and fruits.

I think I need a tripod as my hands were shaking a lot.

Here is a picture of my Rugzy.

couldnt keep your hands steady eh?

As for the flowers and what not, what mode were you using, what white balance, and so forth. I know if the sunlight was bright enough, you could have set it to Tv Shutter priority, and set something like 1/100 or so , that would be enough not to shake in broad daylight. But ya you could use some practice with the camera. The indoor shots seem pretty good tho.

I use a tripod when I can, but most of the time I dont need it. Also check out this URL on hyperfocal, if you want to set up one of tyour C1/C2 custom modes to make the G3 into a fast point and shoot camera ( not the greatst quality, but will give you the equivilant of most lower quicker point and shoots, or disposible cameras, as they use this method of hyperfocal, to not have to auto-focus )

you can see most of the shots I took with the G3 at kb244.deviantart.com , or check out my personal gallery at http://www.kb244.com/gallery/ , the one G3Pictures, FredrickMeijer's Garden, and Fireworks were taken with the G3. The rest, are with my Canon Powershot S110 2MegaPixel, except for the wc gallery which is from my old old kodak 1.3MP, then any computer generated gallerys are usally screenshots from a game or demo.

Most of my shots were in Auto mode since i'm not familiar with the other ones. I did use the Portrait one to blur out the background pic. Other than than, everything else is default setting. I'm still trying to learn about all of the functionality on this camera. What I noticed was that when I aimed, the center AF Frame was constantly on yellow. I was lucky to get it to green.

Thanks for the link to hyperfocal.

Great shot on your website... I need to get up to speed now.

if you want a more controlable portrait mode, you can set to any of the other modes ( P, M, AV, TV ), and when you zoom into your subject, the more blured anything behind them becomes, as it narrows your field of depth.

Might be a useful tip in future if you dont want to stick in auto. I recomend using 'P' mode most of the time, allows you to certain a bunch of things manually, with the exception of the shutter and aperture, thus giving you greater control, until you move onto AV/TV then later 'M'

I think you are doing just great. Just keep working with it, learn what you can and try it all out... and you'll be fine!

Wow, I didn't know about making the background more blurry. Thanks!

I'll try to use "P" from now on and move my way up to AV/TV,M.
