When in CR last November the local school teacher asked if I would take some photos of the class as a group, which I did....then every kid in the class came up and wanted a shot of themselves or witha pall...I've put it off too long and now my evenings will be full of PP until March so I'll have a bag full of photos to take back to the kids..So until then I'll suffer you all to CC and suggest changes or view and enjoy the most wonderful group of children I have ever encountered in my travels around this beautiful planet...Here is the first..one (#2) is blown out ...Ideas?

What a beautiful girl Peachman. Those doe eyes can just melt your heart.

As for the second picture. If you didn't shoot in RAW, you can use the lasso tool with a feathered edge to select just the overexposed areas. Then lower the levels output until it looks better but make sure you don't go too far making it a dark gray. Finally, you can pick the air brush tool and select the color of her skin with the eyedropper tool. Then airbrush some color into the overexposed area with an opacity of around 12-15%. That should help a lot.

(Can you tell I have overexposed a few shots in my day?)

Thanks Joel...I've tried the lasso tool and brought up the levels repair before but it came out as a very hard spot , however I did not use the feathering feature...I will try it your way..(I spend 9/10ths of the year in Maine trying to get enough light to even make a highlight, then go to CR and try to not blow everything out...I need to just move there and shoot, shoot, shoot! ... Her eyes are so dark that it looks like one big pupil when you look at her...I have a better shot of her eyes, but there was shadows that really distract...I'll put it up later...Thanks again Joel...

I think they're both great.
I wouldn't sweat the minor flaws. Those kids will love them!

Thanks guys...I should add that these were taken with the much maligned (sometimes be me) Tamron 28-75 2.8 @ 75mm, 1/160 sec, f 6.3,ISO 200, on the first shot and 71mm, 1/80,(why blown out probably) f6.3, Iso 200 on the second. Both shot in Av priority. Not much wrong with the sharpness here in that lens...but like I say about it, it performs wery well in good light...

I am experiencing some pink halo around bright areas in the second photo here on my LCD screen at work that was not present at home on my CRT...anybody else seeing that?? If so what are you using for a monitor ??

Hey again old pal,

I am also seeing the pink halo on my computer with the LCD screen but it's not nearly as prevalent on my other computer with a CRT. I think part of the problem is inherent in LCD monitor design and part is the way the cameras image sensor freaks out with high contrast, overexposed portions of an image.

Since you allow image editing, I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of working on your second image exactly the way I outlined it in my earlier post. It's not perfect, but it should give you a work-around to consider in the future.

Thanks, Joel, I'll have to look at it on my good monitor at home tonight though...It's even pinker than my OP..but the contrasts look better already...thanks for taking the time!

I can't see where anyone can be critical of these, Peachy. They are remarkable and beautiful.

Thanks Lisa...but don't put off going places too long...I always thought it was too much to be able to leave and travel...It was so easy when I started going again after the kids were grown( before kids I was in the merchant marine trade and traveled all the time) and wondered why I had let those years go buy....

We are hoping to travel when our three year old gets a bit older. Although, we have a blended family, now that he is getting older, the oldest is getting married. One of those things where when you have the time=don't have the money, when you have the money=dont have the time. We have a wedding to fund this fall so hopefully after that we can finally get away. In the meantime, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease keep posting all your wonderful pics!
