I took a few shots today and came home to put it on my computer. After saving it to my hard drive using paint shop pro 5, when I right click the image and select exif data, a message pops up saying that there is no exif data available. I know exif data was recorded because when I right click on the picture directly from the card, it shows up. But once I save it, it seems to be gone. The thing is, I have a few other pics I have taken and some of them have it and some of them don't. I can't figure out the pattern for this.

Thanks
Stefan

I've only been able to retrieve the EXIF data from the Zoombrowser program that came with the S2.

If you opened the photos in PSP and then saved them to your PC, I bet the data was lost during the save by PaintShop. Can't say for sure, but perhaps there's a way to have PSP not kill the file data... although after you've cropped, color-corrected, etc., it may not really have much meaning.

If you don't want to use ZoomBrowser and have Windows XP (don't know if it works for other versions of Windows), try this: right-click on the filename, and select "Properties." Then click the "Summary" tab. If the file hasn't been altered, you should get most or all of the EXIF data, including exposure settings, camera type, lens focal length, meter mode, exposure compensation, etc. If the image has been altered (and maybe simply re-saved by another app), you'll get just basic info like size and dpi.

Nancy - I downloaded Opanda and I have been using that to view the exif info.

Ross - your suggestion works for the same photos that work in opanda. I have been using PSP for many years and all of my photos have been saved using it. Many of these same photos display exif data. My issue is that it seems random when it displays or not. Those pictures I took today do not even show exif data in ZoomBrowser. I do not understand why some photos have it and some don't. I have always used psp and until I got my S2IS, I have always used my Olympus 490. I have never changed anything on the Olympus and always used auto mode. So I can't understand why these older photos are not consistant with the exif. And now the S2 seems random. I cannot find this variable.

Thanks
Stefan

OK. I took a picture that had exif data and then did some minor adjustment in PSP and saved it. No longer was I able to get the data. So, I guess that the pictures that have no data are ones that I have touched up. But this still doesn't explain why my new pictures from today don't have it. They were not altered at all.

Is this why when I right click on some of the pictures on this forum I get the no exif data message? If somebody alters a picture, it is no longer available?

BTW, the only reason why this matters to me so much is that I want to experiment with different setting and see later which results had what settings.

Thanks
