Just a few pictures taken at the Coldplay - Twisted Logic Tour at GM Place in Vancouver. First time using my 20D at a concert. I was sitting up on the balcony on the side. Initally I used my 17-85mm IS, then I switched to my 50mm 1.8 to use the faster speed.

Yellow Balloon Drop: they dropped these from the roof. once the crowd found out they were filled with glitter, you could see explosions of glitter everywhere. (17-85)

Taken with 50mm. Cropped the image closer to the artists.

Nice pictures considering the limitations. I like the first two... Nice to see the context. Is everybody *sitting*?

Nice shots!

I'd rather stick a screwdriver into my skull than ever listen to their music, but those shots are damn nice...

Geez, Parr, what is it that they do that's so distressing? Anyway, using ISO1600 for concert pictures with a 20D is acceptable and you could use a little more DOF (or better focusing) as #1 and #3 are pretty soft. That's some auditorium ... how many screwdriver-skulls were there? :-)

Hehehehe... Sorry, I'm in a mood.

I can't stand the singer's voice. I won't question their talent; clearly they've got that in spades.

But I'd rather chew tin foil than listen to a Coldplay song.

The pictures, though, are damn nice. Last one's a bit soft, maybe, but it's still real nice...

Hmmm, perhaps time for your tinfoil hat, eh? :-) But I understand ... that's why I have my $120 etymotic earplugs!

Those are the ones they custom fit for you, correct?

I had those when I was in the Navy. Wish I would've kept them when I retired. Didn't figure I'd need 'em any longer.

Little did I know!

Yes, they fill your ear with "stuff" and then use it as a mold to hold the attentuators ... I got the 25's, the most attentuation ... you can get "ear buds" for them, too, but they are even pricier, and I usually need to be listening somewhat to the concert I am shooting, but with the earplugs they all sound bad, just not nearly so loud.

$120? Did you get custom molds? that's pretty expensive unless they're the ER-4P/S

Yes, custom molds ... don't know about the ER-4P/S, and yes they were expensive but they were a business expense, sigh ... I didn't comparison shop for them. :-)

The Navy paid for mine. Of course, since it was the government that was paying for them, I'm sure they were charged several hundred bucks for them!

Dwight, you have the most amazing concert pictures I have seen.

What do you typically expect to shoot with and what settings? Seems to me that these venues would have horrible lighting for photography....

Cool pics!
Yeah, his face is a little overexposed, i still have to go thru the rest of my pictures. Keep in mind that image (#3) is a crop of a frame from a similar image of #2. I just wanted it to seem like I had a bigger zoom ;)

Permission? I called ahead of time and spoke to Guest services at the venue, and asked them if I could bring a camera, they said it was no problem (I actually had to call back on the day of the event, because they (guest services) don't know till they speak with the artists, as each artist is anal towards photography at their events.

Anyhoo as usual, the security guard wouldn't let me take my camera in. He said cameras with detachable lens cannot go in. I'm like doods! I spoke with guest services, and they said no problem! so after some bickering he said he would take me to them, but luck had it, the guest services manager for that day came to see what the hold up was, and she looked at my lens, then at my seats, and said go on in. She even put a tag on my bag so that if anyone asks, this will prove that it is okay.

I'll post a few more pics soon.
