The LCD in my G1 occasionally goes black, usually at a most inconvenient time, and then comes on again in a few seconds. It seems unrelated to position of the LCD or movement of any particular control.

Anyone else have this problem and/or know the cause? I note with concern this happened to someone else posting in the thread "My G1 just died!"

I have the same problem with my G1 and havent figured out what it is yet.
The LCD goes black and if i take a picture while its black, the actual picture comes out black too.

I would have a hard time getting the LCD to come up again (it wasnt the display button either)
Even when i turned it off and on again it wouldnt come on. It did come on when i went into playback mode though, but when i switched back to capture, it went black again.

This also came at a really inconvenient time to find out my camera did this.

Me too. Haven't figured it out yet. The only consistent clue is that it always happens at the most inconvenient time :-)

There's a little switch that's located right behide the camera's body. When you close the LCD pannel, the switch is closed so that the LCD screen is turned off. Find the switch and verify that you did not accidentally touch the switch. Just a thought.

nope its not that switch.

i've been using the camera a lot lately and out of the 60 usual pics that i take, about 5 to 10 of them come out Completely BLACK. Will i have to take it to get repaired? Or is this something that i can fix? Someone please help

My own question that started this thread has alredy been answered well by "ThiTran" - it was indeed the little switch mentioned, and it's so easy to press it accidentally that it should be mentioned in the manuals.

As for the black images, I guess it's not something as obvious as using the viewfinder and leaving the lens cap on? Hey - it happens!

I have just encountered a similar problem that started yesterday. My lcd display has not become completely black but the images are very feint even when viewing previously taken photos. I have looked through all of the settings on the camera and trawled through this forum for an answer but have not solved the problem. I guess the central issue is discovering if there a setting to adjust the brightness on the lcd or is this a fault with the camera.
