Was trying to take a shot of a flower with my 18-55mm kit lens when suddenly, a spider jumped onto my tripod out from nowhere ...

That's a pretty ugly lookin' spider. Good thing he didn't jump on mine! :p

Not really. In the US, there are only two spiders that are truly classified as poisonous, the black widow and the brown recluse (neither of which are very *colorful*).

I tried to cross-reference the pic and came up with nothing. maybe there's an arachnologist around?

All spiders have venom, it just depends on how strong the venom and its affect on people. Venomous animals bite or sting, poisonous animals have to eaten to have an affected.

well put!, never thought of it that way.

i was always under the impression that adding color to insects, frogs small animals like that was to give them a warning, IE. go near me/ eat me... you die.

but you are right with the blk widow and the brown recluse being very poisonous and not colorful.

I dont think that this spider is poisonous ...
I handled it with my hand ... I placed it back to the bushes where it came from ...
Can an expert identify this spider?
