View Full Version : G Series Speed Challenge #52--- Something Fresh

Thank-you everyone for posting. The entries were wonderful and I have been waffling back and forth over who the winners should be.
This is my first hosting so here it goes:

1st Place: Partridge9
That dew drop is just amazing. The clarity and reflection
are so beautiful and the rich green color of the plant it is
on really makes for the freshness factor I was looking for.
My eye went right to that dew drop and mesmerized me.

2nd Place:marie
I love the carefree attitude in this photo; socks and shoes
tossed haphazardly, the young man sprawled out on the fresh
green grass, soaking in the warm sun. This photo made me
long for springtime, the freshest time of year.

3rd Place:dewmuw
There is something so amazing about flowers popping up
out of the earth. They never fail to say that winter is over
and good weather is coming. Damian, just a teeny suggestion:
trim the blown highlights off the top of this photo, add a bit of
contrast and this will be worthy of a wall print.

Monkey_wrench: I loved your entry but not the bottle.
It was too distracting from that cute little guy. Enter him again
in different circumstances and you'll have a winner.

Alans220: Yours was by far my favorite photo and would
have won 1st place but you didn't put a title. This happened to me
before when I was new to this. Next time erase the "G-Series
Speed Challenge" and type in your own descriptive title. It is
a fabulous photo and took my breath away.

andrewaaa5: What a beautiful photo and a marvelous
perspective. Definitely would have made the top 3 but
it was the wrong size. Remember to make it 640 pixels
on the longest side. The pink flowers against the brown
house was a wonderful color combination.

AndryD: I would have preferred a closer crop of those
pink baby feet. There was a little too much baby in
that photo with her head cut off. Next time, zoom in
on those cute little piggy toes.

JLacoy82: This looks like my favorite drink!
If the ice cubes had been a bit clearer and there
had been a little more carbonation, it could really
make this photo "pop":D

Boutty: Oh man, I was going to give you 2nd place
with the milking cows! I loved that photo! I also happen to
love this photo. It is very glorious with the morning
sun coming through those trees.

Bottom Bracket: A beautiful wall mural but I think the
bicycles ruined it for me. I was hoping you would have a fresh
cup of coffee and fresh pastry beside it. I know this was a
hard week for you and I appreciate the time you took to
enter.

ma-s: That was a very innovative entry.....the colors were
great. I would have loved to seen one of those fresh
desserts sitting along side it.

blacksmurf: What a beautiful fountain. The gold colors
against the black night were wonderful. You did a great
job taking this photo and I really love it. It just lacks
the freshness factor I was looking for.

injapan: There is nothing fresher than new life budding out
and your photo really captured that. I had a very hard time not
putting this in the top 3 spots and I wavered back & forth with yours..
In fact, it was trying to make this decision that made me realize
what hard job this. Thanks for your wonderful entry.

Tnx Maureen for judging - it isn't easy! ;)

Sorry, but I was too busy to think this weeks challenge and was maybe stuck with last weeks subject of humour. So I sent that close-up of a restaurant menu, with that unintentional spelling mistake listing those refreshing desserts :-) - did you notice that?

Yeah, maybe I should have showed you my pictures of fresh stawberries, ripened by the sun of an endless day of Nordic summer :-)

Thanks all of you of the photos and congratulations to the winners. Let's see what Patridge9 will cook out as our next challenge!

Yes, Mark... I was wondering if you had to order one of those yummy concoctions in the desert. ;) It was still a very innovative submission.
I spent quite a bit of time during the night trying to decide on the winners.....I think being 2nd place is a great position to be in. :D

jlacoy82
6th of February 2006 (Mon), 14:32
Thanks for the comments. I was trying to get the fizz bubbles popping out the top, but alas, my soda just wasnt fizzy enough, not to mention I kept getting spatter all over my lense, and figured that was enough of that. :P

Sponging sticky soda off a linoleum floor is one thing, but trying to clean it off the lens of my XXX hundred dollar camera just wasnt going to be happening. :)

Congratulations to the winners! Well judged Maureen, and thanks for the kind comments. I planned to make some fresh pasta for the challenge but it has been quite a trying week for me. I must say that logging on to POTN has been a welcome distraction. Anyway, i look forward to what Partridge has in store for us.

Congratulations to the top 3 winners! Fantastic job Maureen! Great images everyone!

Yeah, I really should have left my 1st entry there. It's amazing place I visited; it took two men to milk 400 plus cows in less than 2 hours twice each day! I took it out as I felt that it doe not have the element of freshieness like the second image I submitted. Any how! Let's see what partridge9 has got for the next theme! :p

PS. Congrats to Monkey_wrench & AndryD to your babies!

I like the cows picture. Very interesting.

for the tough job of having to choose and for the nice comments, thank you

I don't know how long the fellow lay there like that
I never actually saw the moment when he threw himself and those socks and sneakers down
seems the perfect way to relax in the fresh air
this was between two mountains

:)

Congratulations to everyone

Congratulations partridge9, marie and dewmuw for winning.
Thanks to all the participants for sharing their pictures and to Maureen Souza for the comments.

I found some new (may I say fresh?) names in the contests. Welcome!

I upgraded my internet service to a (fresh?) faster 24 hours connection, but it was a week devoted to develop new (fresh again?) services for my work’s clients and I was unable to post a picture here.

Besides the winners, I enjoyed mainly blacksmurf’s fountain and in Japan twins pictures.

I spent some time finding the error and guessing the Greek letters in the ma-s menu and I am still willing to read the Greek word for honey :)

I hope to get some time to post a picture the next week.

Congratulations to partridge9, marie and dewmuw.

I am sorry I missed this one, but I gave my camera to a friend who was visiting Las Vegas...when someone asks for something it's hard for me to say no... .

Anyhow, he is coming back tuesday so I will be here for the next challenge...

Loved the photos...I feel fresh now.

Hey Blacksmurf, thanks! I think there were a lot of great entries this time. Maureen, thanks for the comment, bikes keep popping up in my photos all too often. Rene Magritte had the same problem with his bowler hat. I wonder why? :) Anyway, I think it adds scale to the picture. And I am too obsessed with bicycles, perhaps :)

I've been meaning to take a shot like Partridge9's - thanks for the inspiration. Marie, my wife and I really liked your photo...put a smile on both of our faces. See you next week!

Cant wait for the next contest.

Here's the applicable rule and it's past the deadline so you are automatically the host, Marie!

"7. If the winner can't be contacted and doesn't respond by Wednesday noon GMT, the second-place winner will host the challenge."

Hi all. I am sorry for the delay in my response to the forum. I have been experiencing some ongoing ISP troubles and was unable to access the forum or email for a few days. Additionally, I will probably not be available, due to work obligations, to judge this week's contest. I’ve been busy lately (always a good thing) and have not been able to spend as much time here as I would like. I was surprised, but delighted, to learn that I had won this one! On the other hand, I am always surprised to win when there are always so many great entries. Thank you, Maureen, for the distinguished honor and my congratulations to marie and dewmuw for second and third, respectively. Those of you who have been following these challenges know that I am not one who would normally shirk my duties but sometimes there are extenuating circumstances… Therefore, this time I must reluctantly pass the honor on to Marie, in whom I have complete confidence. I know that she will come up with a good subject for this week’s challenge and, as always, will do a great job judging. So good luck to all and I will see you next time. Again, my apologies. Al
