I see that Adobe is selling the Camera Raw Plugin & JPEG 2000 for $99. Does anyone know where to find it cheaper or maybe a demo/trial version. I'm not convinced its worth that much money.

(search Kazaa but not much luck. anywhere else?)

At this point unless you are desperate,
I would wait until PS8.0 comes out.

I have not seen it cheaper anywhere else
Just my opinion.

Terry,

There's nothing definite yet that I've seen, but the expectation seems to be sometime in Q3. Unless you can get a guarantee of a free upgrade from 7 to 8, I'd be inclined to wait.

Thanks roger, i think i will wait until q3 then and see what happens.

i am happy useing 5.5 but the RAW converter seems like a good reason to upgrade to a newer version.

Is there a way to try Camera Raw before shelling out the cash to buy the plugin or upgrade to PS8.

No. Adobe offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

I think that the product is worth the price. It seems to work much faster and is easier to use than the Canon product.

I don't see however, how Adobe can justify selling it now and then claiming it will be free in future versions. that to me is a con. They are just squeezing cash out of people.

Offering an opportunity to get functionality NOW that they'd otherwise have to wait 9+ months to get, if you based your purchase when it was first available vs when PS 8.0 will ship. Given the options--one minute per file with Canon's FVU vs 10 seconds with ACR, and with better control--I [relatively] cheerfully paid the money for it.

They're not "squeezing" people to buy it.

I admit, I'd prefer it to have been free, but expecting that is somewhat foolish. I'd even prefer it if there were a discount on v8's upgrade for ACR purchasers, but that's not going to happen, either.

Well i tried using the Photoshop 8 Adobe RAW+JPEG 2000 plug-in that comes with it in Photoshop 7 and I get a "not compatiable with older versions of Photoshop" so hopefully they are working on a plug-in update for older PS7 users. (who knows maybe they want you to upgrade to PS8 just for that one item....which would suck)

Carnagex2000:

I am not sure what you are talking about. The $99 update from Adobe is for Photoshop 7, however you may need to be running 7.0.1. You should be able to get the update to 7.0.1 from their website. As far as I know, PS 8 is not yet available.

Oliver is right. You need to install the PS 7.01 update for the RAW plug to work.

from my post before:
..plug-in that comes with it in Photoshop 7

( i meant Photoshop 8.....the new RAW plugin-ver.2.0x12- does not work with PS7.0.1 it will only work in PS8)

I need the RAW Plugin for Canon 10D RAW files (yes i know there is a hack in which you change the words D60 with 10D with a hex editior, but the color profiles are still going to be for the D60 which is not what I want) Ill use the RAW plugin-ver.2.0x12-that's included with PS8 for my 10D RAW files (which has the proper color profile for the 10D, no hack involved).

As I said before, I really don't know what you are talking about. I have the plug in that I got from Adobe - not a "hack". It is not camera specific. I use it on my 1Ds without problems.

Actually, I think it is camera specific in that it does not support the 10D at this time. You need to hack it to be able to use it with the 10D raw files. There is no raw plugin (absent a hack) which supports the 10D.

I am more confused by the reference to PS8... I have not heard that it is available. As far as I know, PS7 is out, and the raw plugin can be used with it so long as you have updated to 7.01 (the update is available on Adobe's website

Im using a 10D which is not supported by the RAW+JPEG 2000 plug-in (even if you update to 7.0.1) The 10D RAW is not support (which is strange cause all the other Canon RAW files are supported) And as far as PS8, im beta testing it right now. Expect it this fall.
(and as far as the NDA, they cant figure out who I am from reading this)

The summary is as follows
a.PS7.01 supports RAW but not 10D
b. Elements 2 (the software bundled with the camera) does not support the RAW Plugin
c.Prehabs other programs BB etc support 10d

PS Elements 2 does support ACR. I have have used it with PSE2, and it works the same as with PS7.
