Both taken with my G3. The sunset is heavily cropped.
I'm just starting out, but I thought I might get some opinions.

Not sure what to say. Both are beautiful shots of the sky. Both have different qualities to admire. And yes, you will find that cropping becomes a way of life with the G series.
About all that I can suggest is giving a lot of thougt as to what might add more interest to the composition. A bird might -- but again you are using a short lens. Some foreground water might seet the scene -- but that too might require a boat at anchor, etc.
On close, geat color -- and some will say that that is enough.

PS: Take a look at Eland's post -- and imagine you had that subject -- but either of your skies.

I like the colors on both, and especially like the look of the sky on the second. I'm thinking along the same lines as Howie... there seems to be something missing (more on the first than than the second), but beyond that I really can't say what. I also can't decide whether the trees/bushes along the bottom of the second enhances or detracts (Perhaps some more experienced photographers can better address that), but otherwise its a fantastic shot of the sky! Overall they both have great colors but the second seems much more interesting to me than the first.

jes, i don't think the mode you shot it in makes the difference. The difference I think is caused by you metering the sky in the first shot, and the trees in the second shot? Just a guess.

Both are very nice. I like the first because of the changes of color in the sky.
