Greetings:

Winter is upon us, unless you live on the equator please disregard that notice!

Here's an old shot taken with one of those Canon cameras in the days when you had to wind that brown stuff around a spline and crank a lever.

10 minutes at F8, Kodak VR100, Sigma 24mm.

Cold - yes.
Dangerous standing in the road in those conditions down the street from a pub at 11:00pm - very yes.

Cousin.

Got Scottish shots? Consider posting them here http://www.scotlandone.com

Its funny, i didnt know immediately how to react to the picture. I love most of it, but the strong yellow from the streetlamp does bother me. But the contrast of the snow and the dark houses it wonderful. How does it look in B&W?

Oh, and the blue of the sky is gorgeous as well

Ah,the good old (or not) film days eh ?
I don`t see that much snow in Troon very often cousin, and when i do these days it doesn`t even last.
I like the yellow in it,it gives it a nice and warm feel to it.

Hello pal,

Sodium lights play havoc with the colour shift you are right. In fact the original from the scanned negative looks like jaundice LOL. I have cut it down as much as is humanly possible without it becoming black and white.

Which to your other question... I have this photo in B&W framed on the wall in my livingroom. How does it look? The Church has lost some of the tonal range so too has the corner of the wee house on the left.

Interesting that you should ask... because it has been a favourite B & W from colour picture for the last 22 years. (Photo was taken btw Jan 1984)

Thanks for askin.

Cousin... the one you always liked. ;)

Troon me lad is right on the water and you have that dastardly North Atlantic Current wafting in warm air.

I was brought up in Dunlop all my life (left in 1988) If it snowed we would go out at 10pm at night sledging with our parents... for it would all be gone by morning.

Enjoyed your photos dv... I had a peek at your stuff. Would love to see them on the ScotlandOne site.

Yer favourite cuzzin.

Thanks pal,

It was -8C that night, not cold by Canadian standards over here, but when it's damp it feels like -18C. One of those nights that when you get back in the hoose the camera fogs up.

Glad you liked it. I will go and rustle up some more night shots.

Just Cuz.

Slightly OT here, but since it is your thread anyway...

Cousin, your Scots "typing" accent reminded me of the Scottish Parliament's web site that is in the Scots dialect. I think you might like it: http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/vli/language/scots/index.htm

Ten minutes in the cold may have frozen your brain. Maybe 8 minutes would have been enough?

Mohaaaaahaaaaaaaaaa,

Good one Stan, I guess the Florida heat keeps you indoors a lot what with 6061 posts.

Visited your pbase gallery.... very respectable shots my man. You have a good eye for composition. I was suitably impressed... and you even ventured out of your Florida pastures and went to Alaska!

Beautiful work Stan. If you have anything of Britain, do send it along.
