I got a Canon S800 printer along with my D30. It cost $299 (which isn't much). It says it gets 1200 dpi. I am pleased with its performance and quality so far.

However, is this printer a good "fit" for the D30? am I missing out on better quality 8.5 x 12 inch prints by not having a better printer? What IS the next better printer, stepping up from the S800, either Canon brand or another?

I feel like I might have UNDERpaid for a printer to match the quality of the D30 camera.

BTW, I will be using the D30 for outdoor nature photography, mostly fall folliage, waterfalls and flowers.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

I have the Epson 1280 ($499) for my D30. The quality is very good even at 13x19.

Ink is a little expensive, but good quality Glossy paper is not bad.

Bottom line:

I use the EPSON 890. It's the same as the 1280 except that it will only print to A4 sheet (8X10). It produces super prints from the D30.

Until I started reading up on inkjets and then bought this printer I had not really appreciated that inkjet printing has reached the level of photographic art. It is generally agreed that inkjets now match and sometimes exceed the quality of conventional printing.

A D30, Photoshop and a good inkjet give you full capability to print to a professional standard. The one caveat in all this is that to produce good results you MUST understand ICM for the D30, PS and the printer. If not you will have color matching problems.

If you do buy a new inkjet make sure it is ICM capable. The new Epson inkjets all are.
