I really like it, but perhaps it would even better if the left hand was positioned to put the ring in focus.....or perhaps a secondary object would create a distraction;)

Nice touch although I'd like to see the DOF take in at least the finger tips and point of the pen. As it is they're just a bit soft

Thanks guys and gals I will keep this all under advisement. I guess next time I will go with 2.2 instead of 1.8 on the old 50mm and step back and to the left just a bit. I will always keep trying to do better & be better.

THe only thing I don't like is the DOF in the foreground of the image...I really like what you have done but I think it would be better if you had it sharp fading to OOF. Having said that I am impressed with the idea and I will have to keep that one in mind...

Might be a bit overkill, but definately usable. Try sharpening it a bit.

One thing i've recently learned is you can't trust the preview on your camera when it comes to judging DOF. When you look at it on a big screen you tend to find that the DOF is narrower than you thought, and you wish you'd shut down another couple of stops. Bracketing your aperture is a good plan.

What is OOF? And how do you get that effect?

This shot was taken with my 1.8 50mm with an ISO of 1600 on the 5D.

I like it...
It seems to me (and remember I an infintile when it comes to photography) that much of this "good and bad" picture stuff is just personal taste.....

It is subjective, but there are some styles that are much nicer and more appealing than others...

What is the easiest way to control DOF?

DOF is controled with your f/stop.
This shot was also in a church with bad lighting. If I could of had a stop and a half or so I could have added to the DOF. 2.8 is what would have been better I know but I had no choice.
