Canon f5.6 400 L lens

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help? I've recently converted to from Contax to Canon (10D) and am thinking about buying 400 5.6 L lens, how good is it, how does it compare to the 300 4.0 L lens? I have a third party wide zoom and the 70-200 4.0 L zoom (awesome) and would like to get the 400 5.6 L lens. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have this lens on my wish list and so I've been keeping an eye out for comments. Almost everything I've seen suggests that it is a very fine performer and very good value for money, if you don't mind the slow maximum aperture and lack of IS.
