My tribute to Cadel Evans. First Ozzy to win the Tour De France.

I'm sure Cadel will have to choke back a tear when he sees this lovely tribute to his long labors:D Another nice job! I don't think I'll ever be able to spend as much time on a photo as you do on these. It's clear (to me anyway) that you really manage to get your final product to match your vision.

Anyway, all these landscape "big" pictures lately, I took mine out on for a neighborhood walkaround and nabbed a lot of "little" stuff. An incredibly versatile lens.

Versatile Lens indeed! So happy to own it... 50mm & 17-40 is perfect for 80-90% of my shots...

It's funny I recognised this shot immediately as Australia-related - by the thongs, the speedos, the physique...before I read where the poster came from and what it was related to.

Not knocking us Aussies, just found it funny that I immediately related to it for some reason. Doesn't speak much for the traditional Aussie does it? ;)

11pm to 1am. Half of the shots are in 2 different folders in LR. :lol: I wanted to start earlier but our dinner plans ran an hour late. :confused:

whoa.. where these stitched together... looks panoramic.. is the ratio straight out of camera, or were they cropped to look panoramic??

Ey, thanks and sorry for the late respond! :)

Yes those pictures were stiched together, since I use a canon EOS 550D with a cropped sensor I usually have to make panoramic pictures to get the whole view.

Decided to shoot the freeway again, but after sunset... I tried to do long exposures at sunset but the sky detail was getting blown out... I guess i need an ND filter...

hahah yeah. i was at home in va watching some tv when i felt the ground shake.... then the dog gave me a funny look and i ran to the door and figured it was an earthquake......it was not that bad for me even though i live like 100miles from the epicenter. nothing even fell of the shelf. but the national cathederal parts broke off.

I've heard it has vignetting and some weird distortion at 17mm on a FF body, but how does it work on a 1.3x crop? I'm looking at all the exifs for a picture taken with the 1d to make sure I want this lens.

The composition is good on these, but am I alone in thinking the colours are massively overblown? I guess it's a matter of taste, but my personal preference is for pictures that look like real life.

I haven't so not really qualified to comment on its qualities, but for me the cost does not warrant it as I dont need the f/2.8. Have read many reviews and it does not give much over the 17-40 other than cost IMO.

To be honest I would like sometimes to go even wider, but a buddy I do this with has a Sigma 12-24 and I have borrowed that on occasions...........a great lens also.

What all of you can do with this lens is amazing. What are it's weak points? When shooting near or at 17 do you always have to correct every image or are there tricks to improve lines near the edge and edge distortion? It can be done it is obvious from this thread. I want it for weddings and unique perspective on location portrait shots. I use flash at weddings so the f/4 is fine as long as it is good at f/4.

I haven't noticed any pronounced CA, at all. I tend not to use it for things like tree branches against a bright sky, so maybe there are conditions where it's high. Still, the 17-40 is not known for having a lot of CA.

Has anyone noticed bad chromatic abberation with it? I seem to have pretty bad CA, even on objects that are not near the edges. My 15-30 sigma performs better than this lens as far as CA is concerned. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed it too?
Yes, I have. It's not always that noticiable, but sometimes it's present. My Sigma 17-70mm performed a lot better with CA than this Canon.
