Turning off the flash

Ok ... so this is really dumb, but I just got the 10D and the 550 flash. Is there a way to disengage the flash other than completely turning it off? There are times that I don't even want the fill flash.

Yes, there is. Go to Custom Function #5.
Select setting #3 - this will let the 550EX spoject the AF assist beam for low-light focusing, but the flash will not fire when you're taking a picture.
If you want to turn off the flash all together, the switch is the quickest and easiest way.

THANKS! I figured there had to be some easy way to do this, although I don't really care for all the custom presets.
